As a Mechanical Engineer at Planet Innovation you will be working on leading edge technology with clients that include some of the world’s top medical device and healthcare companies, as well as some of the world’s most exciting start-ups, developing medical and diagnostic devices. You will be a key contributor in a team of product development experts who bring both technical expertise and an entrepreneurial spirit to the exciting industry of new product development. 

As a Mechanical Engineer your key responsibilities will include:

  • Identify and complete necessary project tasks based on functional requirements and phase deliverables
  • Maintain client contact and develop relationship
  • Define functional characteristics of parts, including tolerances, materials and finishes, to achieve product requirements
  • Develop module and system concepts in conjunction with project team to achieve system requirements
  • Create and maintain product-level Costed BOM 
  • Prepare assembly documents in accordance with project standards
  • Produce written design descriptions for subsystems and prepare sections of Mechanical Architecture Documents for products
  • Provide estimations for timeline development
  • Drive brainstorming and concept development processes for modules and sub systems
  • Provide technical input into product or module risk assessment activities
  • Procure, build and test subsystem prototypes
  • Prepare engineering drawings in accordance with project standards and PI Quality procedures to clearly define all part / assy specifications
  • Anticipate client/project concerns and propose design solutions
  • Present concepts, designs and test results to project team and client
  • Be familiar with and adhere to project documents (i.e. Functional Requirements; Proposal; Project Schedule)

To be successful in the role you will require:

  • A minimum of 5-10 years technical experience in the biomedical equipment industry
  • Experience in product development, particularly within a fast paced consulting environment
  • Client facing experience
  • Proficient in SolidWorks modelling
  • Proficient in SolidWorks PDM operation and administration
  • Proficient in the application of GD&T
  • Knowledge of high precision metrological methods and relevant statistical analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of vibration and accelerometer-based testing, data gathering and analysis
  • Design and validation of precision machined components for medical products, including materials selection
  • Familiarity with international quality standards e.g. ISO9001:2008 and FDA QSR regulations
  • Graduate degree in engineering (Mechanical; Mechatronics)
