Empower Management is seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer for the Infrastructure & Building team in the Gold Coast or Brisbane office. This is an integrated professional services business, and the team consists of multidisciplinary specialists in design, construction, and delivery for a wide range of clients in QLD on small to large building & transport infrastructure projects. Specialising in the areas of Building Services, Urban Development, Infrastructure, Environmental Services, and Mining and Resources.

This role involves providing discipline-specific technical input in all facets of civil infrastructure projects from the initial client inquiry through to the completion of the project, including coordination with other engineering disciplines, liaison with clients, associated consultants, local authorities, statutory bodies, production of design deliverables, site inspections, and reporting. Have experience in the design, documentation, inspection, and certification of civil works associated with building works. Have experience in feasibility studies, design, documentation, supervision, and certification of civil infrastructure works. (Roads, Stormwater, Water, Sewer)


  • This role will focus on the delivery of engineering services for our Urban and Infrastructure Development as well as Building Services in Brisbane, including the provision of input to the preparation of proposals, feasibilities, designs, supervisions, investigations, and reports.
  • Ensuring output is of a high standard, within time and cost budget allocations while ensuring client expectations are met.
  • Preparation of conceptual and detailed design drawings in accordance with statutory requirements and standards
  • Managing deliverables of a project including quality control and the coordination of drafting staff
  • Providing input to the continuous improvement of our design and drafting standards
  • Help solve client/project team’s problems by lateral thinking and creating innovative solutions. Consult with colleagues to ensure the best ideas are captured.
  • Evaluate opportunities for improved efficiencies and effectiveness including identifying, developing, and implementing standards, systems, tools, and processes to support continuous improvement within the organisation and apply agreed improvements to future projects/work.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation for project works using standard drafting procedures, practices and undertake basic structural designs, and drafting using computer-aided design equipment and software. Sketches and engineering mark-ups are completed in accordance with national drafting standards and manager’s instructions.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to the manager and/or Project Leader by way of performing engineering calculations, reports, discipline tender, and construction documentation in accordance with standards, building codes, and legislative requirements.
  • Provide timely and accurate expertise and advice on matters relating to engineering elements of relevant standards and acts and provide best value solutions to the team.
  • Undertake appraisal of engineering designs, and the correctness of certification documents lodged in connection with building applications while following established procedures and documentation standards.
  • Undertake project phases, ensuring understanding of assignments including special requirements and schedule for completion while ensuring projects are delivered on time, are of high quality, and within budget.
  • Liaise with engineers, project teams, authorities, and clients (where applicable) and assist in maintaining client relationships while ensuring that attendance at resource meetings and regular feedback/project status updates to Project Leaders.

To be successful:

  • Proven exposure to the local Infrastructure and property/building industry in QLD.
  • Experience in designing roads, stormwater drainage, water sensitive urban design, sewer and water infrastructure.
  • Have experience in the design, documentation, inspection, and certification of civil works associated with building works.
  • Advanced Diploma or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in 12d and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of SEQ Council’s and local Authority Standards, Specifications and Procedures.
  • Review of Contractors EOT’s, Claims, Variations and preparation Payment Certificates.
  • Review of Quality Assurance & As Constructed Documentation.
