It's an exciting time to be part of this respected international metalliferous company as they take a sustainable approach to expanding their existing gold and copper operations. With commitment from the Executive leadership team to continually to enhance safety while also improving production across all of the existing facilities, a newly created opportunity has arisen for a Drill and Blast Engineer.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will provide short to medium term technical direction to the Drill and Blast team, development and implementation of Drill and Blast plans and will also participate in projects to improve cost effectiveness and productivity.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the design and schedule of weekly drill and blast plans
  • Daily tracking of the drilling, loading and blasting conditions
  • Providing technical advice and assistance to the drill and blast team
  • Development of drill and blast strategic management plans
  • Provide on-the-job engineering support to sites drilling and blasting activities underground or surface, ensuring compliance to standards and a focus on effective QA/QC
  • Coordinate with explosive suppliers to deliver reliable and cost-effective supply of the products and services
  • Collate and review monthly drill and blast performance data

We are ideally seeking candidates who can demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Significant Drill and Blast Design experience (mandatory)
  • Surface/ OP Drill and Blast experience advantageous
  • 5-10 years’ experience in a similar role within the mining industry
  • Ability to lead and motivate a workforce to achieve high standards of safety, productivity and performance
  • Good understanding of explosive characteristics, manufacture and application including Electronic Detonation systems
  • Sound numerical and analytical skills with excellent report writing skills
  • Experience with mine design packages
  • Expert understanding of operational drill and blast design and planning
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • Advanced computer literacy using mining software packages (experience in Minex preferred)
