The Manufacturing Engineer position reports directly to the Engineering Programme manager and is based at Murarrie, Brisbane.

You will have overarching responsibility (ownership) for the End-To-End delivery of all NPI activities bringing a product into production. This includes the development of all required documentation, tools, equipment, etc. to ensure a smooth handover from Engineering to Production. 


  • Managing and supporting the NPI Process.
  • Liaison with Engineering and R&D and offering advice and consultation around DFM and DFA requirements.
  • You will be responsible for bridging the gap between production and engineering to ensure all projects meet the required specifications and timelines.
  • Ensuring successful productionisation of product – ease of service, testability and manufacture.
  • Delivery of effective and outcome-based support in the generation of parts replacement kits, design of spare parts kits – content and BOM.
  • Develop operating procedures/process sheets, process flow charts and floor plan layouts.
  • Lead and conduct PFMEA activities.
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager to develop the MBOM.
  • Work closely with Quality to develop Control Plans for prototypes and production, analyzing measurement systems and conducting process capability studies.
  • Training of operators on the production line.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) projects; manage a portfolio of ‘Lean’ projects directed at reducing waste & improving Quality with the objective of increasing ‘value’.
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma tools & methodologies in the implementation of Engineering & Manufacturing excellence initiatives.
  • Develop new Manufacturing equipment and processes, write equipment specifications, author & optimize Manufacturing processes to improve Quality and material flow, while reducing takt times and set-up times.
  • Champion OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) initiatives to reduce scrap & downtime, whilst improving preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with the implementation and subsequent roll-out of ‘systems / tool-sets’ such as APQP, 5S, SPC, Kaizen, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, Process Capability, Pareto analysis, Fishbone, DOE etc.
  • Serve as an internal process development consultant, primarily for Engineering & Manufacturing, ensuring Safety, Quality, and Cost Reduction efforts are being addressed, implemented and sustained.
  • Drive the standardization of processes and the implementation of metrics and best practices.
  • Liaise with the Quality Team, reviewing & monitoring Manufactured & In-Service Quality metrics, assisting in the development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Support Engineering and Manufacturing as far as NCR’s (Non-Conformities), RCA’s (Root Cause Analysis), Line Optimization, etc.
  • Create & develop an overarching Kaizen culture within the business, & lead Kaizen events focused on generating tangible efficiency improvements and cost reduction. 
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a QMS, including the authoring of WI’s (Work Instructions) associated with Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement etc.

Qualifications and Competencies 

  • Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Automotive / High Tech Manufacturing Environment background
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing, JIT, Line Sequencing, Capacity Planning, KANBAN, 5S, TQM etc.
  • Manufacturing based Value Stream Mapping & Capacity Planning
  • Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM) experience
  • Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) expertise
  • 6-Sigma (Green or Black Belt)
  • ISO 9001/2015, TS 16949 Lead Auditor Certified (a plus, not mandatory)
  • Solidworks experience
  • Experience in the development of process documentation that will include standard operating procedures/work instructions/test instructions
  • Strong autonomous background and ability to self-manage time and tasks;

  • Solid written & verbal communication skills;
  • Hands-on and practical approach;
  • Enthusiasm and highly motivated;
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints;
  • On occasion the ability to travel where required to facilitate the outcomes required in this position;
