About the Role:

An exciting opportunity currently exists for a Construction/Fabrication Engineer to join Bechtel’s Mining & Metals team in Perth, Western Australia. With a strong pipeline of projects ranging from front end development studies to full EPCM project execution now is truly the right time to join this innovative multi-discipline team and play a key role in driving success.

Reporting directly to the Construction/Fabrication Manager you will be responsible in the structural, mechanical and piping disciplines for:

  • Developing fabrication and construction execution plans and methodologies for studies and execution projects – EPC and EPCM.
  • Modular construction strategies and trade-offs.
  • Fabrication, logistics and construction input into contracting and procurement strategies for supply, fabrication, installation and field service contracts and orders.
  • Input into cost estimates including temporary facilities and infrastructure, fabrication and module yards, logistics, equipment and staffing requirements.
  • Development of implementation schedules and sequencing.
  • Input into engineering design development and constructability reviews.
  • Planning, scope preparation, supervision and administration of sub consultants for desktop and field investigations for studies and detailed design including module transport route surveys, field survey, noise and dust studies.
  • Works with Engineering Managers to unify engineering and field engineering to improve effectiveness.
  • Reviews project drawings and specifications prior to release for construction/fabrication and identifies and eliminates potential problems.
  • Works with Project Controls to implement a standard quantity reporting work process.
  • Monitors execution methodology on projects to learn from improvements and to promote continuous improvement.
  • Implements six sigma tools, analysis and decision making in the execution of duties.
  • Planning, coordinating and preparing construction and fabrication specifications, scopes of work, bid evaluations and award recommendations.
  • Answers questions from client or engineering on construction, fabrication, logistics scope and facilities.
  • Assisting in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and providing input for their performance evaluations.
  • Supporting the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Complying with and promoting Bechtel (and client’s) safety in design procedures to ensure that the asset delivered by Bechtel can be operated and maintained safely.

About You:

You will possess the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years experience in at least one discipline as well as a minimum of three years supervisory experience.
  • Experience in development of execution and contracting strategies.
  • Experience with contract formation and administration.
  • Experience in EPC(M) contract management. Thorough knowledge of construction, fabrication and logistics activities as they relate to construction, services, engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract formation and administration.
  • Extensive background in mining construction projects, providing leadership, maintaining good client relationships and developing talent within the project.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Must be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Must be familiar with current industry quality standards.
  • Cross function experience in another function such as engineering, procurement, contracts, etc would be well regarded.
  • Sound understanding of performance management processes such as Six Sigma would be well regarded.
  • Advanced understanding of production management including scheduling.
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development.
