The Developer Engagement team's mission is to engage and empower the MongoDB user community to become more successful and self-sufficient through public knowledge sharing and improved developer experience. Our official channel for community discussion is the Discourse-powered , launched almost a year ago in February, 2020.
As a Community Forum Engineer you will help manage, shape, and grow our forum experience and also collaborate on other team initiatives. Forum experience includes scoping, testing, and implementing change requests such as category/tag updates, forum configuration, frontend changes (CSS/JS/HTML), and reporting. You will be communicating regularly with internal stakeholders and also interacting directly with our community in relevant public forum discussions such as site feedback and sharing updates.
The ideal fit for this role will be
- A highly effective communicator with attention to process and detail
- Great at partnering and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Comfortable working with CSS/JS/HTML
- Familiar with coding in Python or Ruby
- Eager to learn (and share) new technical skills and knowledge
- Passionate about working with technical communities
Within 3 months:
- Familiarise yourself with our forum configuration and administration tasks
- Become the primary contact for coordinating forum upgrades and ops issues
- Create and document a change management process for forum management
- Scope, design, implement, and test forum change requests in collaboration with other internal teams (design, program management, product management, …)
- Collaborate on team initiatives and code review
- A highly visible member of our team internally and in the community
- Proactively proposing improvements for the forum experience
- Very experienced with Discourse administration and prepared to make plugin/backend changes if required
- Contributing to team knowledge via Share & Learn sessions
- Working toward becoming dual-certified as a MongoDB Developer & DBA
