Champion Construction and Maintenance Services is seeking an experienced Handyman to join our team. Established for three years, Champion CMS began trading as "Chris Stone – Handyman" and has grown over the years, currently rebranding to Champion CMS to better represent our growing company. All of our work is currently found by referral from satisfied customers, due to our quality and customer service approach.

This role will begin with the successful candidate undergoing a three month probation, after which a vehicle and phone will be organised as part of the remuneration package.

The primary function of the role is to provide a variety of professional experienced handyman services at a trade qualified level including repairs, maintenance and renovations as required by clients in both the residential and commercial fields.

If selected for this role, it will be your responsibility to meet Key Performance Criteria that include:

  • Completing jobs and tasks with a quoted timeframe and budget
  • Completing jobs and tasks to a very high level of customer satisfaction
  • Encouraging customer referrals, on sells and positive testimonials

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • has demonstrated trade skills in multiple areas;
  • can interpret plans and drawings relevant to their functions;
  • performs non-trade tasks incidental to their work;
  • conducts on-the-job guidance to a limited degree;
  • instructs labourers and general handyman in the correct performance of trade related skills;
  • provides of on-the-job training;
  • assumes responsibility for allocating tasks within a team within the area of the employees skill competence and training;
  • ability to work in a safe manner as not to cause self-injury or injury to others
  • has responsibility for the order and purchase of materials within defined parameters;
  • applies quality control techniques to the employee’s own work and other employees within the team
  • can complete paperwork required to ensure projects are completed; and
  • can utilise complex problem-solving skills.

In this role you will be required to:

  • Initially provide your own transport to and from your start and finish location. You may also be required to travel in your vehicle to alternative locations or to pick up material during work hours.
  • Initially supply your own tools and equipment. It is your responsibility to ensure your tools meet the required workplace health and safety standard and are in working order,
  • possess a working knowledge of how to operate tools and equipment to manufacturer’s specifications,
  • transport your tools and personal protective equipment to each site,
  • work onsite. As such you will experience limited access to facilities and amenities, including kitchen and lunch facilities,
  • work with limited or no supervision, and
  • perform physical labour often exposed to the elements, sometimes in extreme conditions. As such, it is an inherent requirement of the position that persons occupying the position have both the physical and mental fitness to work in these conditions.

Key Criteria Knowledge and Experience

  • At least 2 years’ experience as a Trades Person, or
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a related trade role in the building and construction industry, or
  • At least 2 years’ demonstrated experience in renovating residential properties.

  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment obligations and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Use of selected hand tools and hand operated power tools

Specific job tasks will include the following. You must have experience and knowledge of how to perform the following to be considered for this role:

  • Landscaping
  • Flooring
  • Gutter and roof installation and repairs
  • Plastering
  • Demolition
  • Assemble and install complex flat packs including sheds, trampolines, kitchens, etc
  • Managing medium size construction jobs including pergolas, decks, kitchens, bathrooms
  • Tap and pipe repairs/replacement
  • Wall fixings including mounting TVs, shelves, art work, cabinets,
  • Painting
  • Concreting (Minor and repairs)
  • Tiling and paving
  • Carpentry
  • Framing, skirting, architrave
  • Brickwork (Minor and repairs)
  • Timber repairs
  • Fencing
  • Cleaning (specific chemical cleaning)
