Ferret is seeking a superstar cloud engineer to lead our migration from Microsoft Azure to AWS, then quickly pivot into delivery of our application to the world. You will be absolutely essential to the infrastructure we are building to deliver our data to the AI/ML team, and the product to the world.


You can work remotely from anywhere, or can work in our Melbourne or Los Angeles offices.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Define plan, setup, maintain and monitor AWS cloud environment and migrate existing applications from various platforms and Azure to AWS.

  • Design, deploy, support and maintain complex AWS cloud-based SaaS solutions.

  • Experience in Container resources like Docker, Kubernetes and running/deploying them on Amazon's Elastic Container Service (ECS) like FarGate.

  • Ensuring solution design provides stringent data security and governance capability

  • Establish collaborative relationships with stakeholders, customers and colleagues to ensure easy and effective achievement of team / project / business goals.


Ideal skills/experience:
  • Ideally looking for someone who comes from a software development background who has then moved into Cloud/DevOps.

  • 5 Years' experience in the engineering space.

  • 3 Years' experience in AWS implementation, optimization and support of cloud infrastructure on AWS or hands-on support experience on Azure Cloud.

  • AWS Cloud experience, including:

    • Hands on experience with AWS cloud services: S3, EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift, VPS, IAM, SSM, Route53, CloudWatch, SQS, SNS and AWS Kinesis Data Streams & Analytics.

    • Experienced in multiple database technologies such as Distributed Processing (Spark, Hadoop, EMR), Traditional RDBMS (MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL), MPP (AWS Redshift, Teradata). NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra, Neo4J, Titan)

    • Experience in designing and building streaming data ingestion, analysis and processing pipelines using Kafka, Kafka Streams, Spark Streaming and similar cloud native technologies.

    • Ideally have experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.

    • Experience with: AWS Cloud Formation, AWS Lambda, AWS Cloud Formation, AWS Code Pipeline, AWS Landing Zone, AWS S3 & DynamoDB.

  • Extensive hands-on experience in designing, deploying and supporting AWS cloud implementations, utilising AWS Fargate, PostgreSQL, RESTful APIs and Docker.

  • Hands-on experience with APIs, Microservices & Serverless Architecture.

  • Hands-on experience with web application development using JavaScript and frameworks like AngularJS/React

  • Hands on experience in one language like Python, Java, C#, GoLang

  • Experience with monitoring solutions such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, and the ELK stack.

  • Experience with building or maintaining cloud-native applications.

  • Experience with the serverless approaches using AWS Lambda, API Gateway is a plus.

  • Experience in developing services, controls, and patterns for public cloud that enable security and privacy at scale.

  • Experience with SDLC tools (e.g. Bamboo, JIRA, GIT, Confluence)

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code experience, Exposure to Web Services & API’s integration using REST, HTTP a plus.

  • Past experience or knowledge of AI-ML project lifecycle, MLOps, and DevOps.

  • Knowledge of CI tooling such as Gitlab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline,

  • Working knowledge of DevOps/CICD - Git, CloudFormation, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, PowerShell, and Jenkins.

  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Bash, shell, Python) a plus.

  • Knowledge of building backend applications using any of DynamoDB, SQL and GraphQL

  • Knowledge of writing infrastructure as code (IaC) using CloudFormation or Terraform.

  • Understanding of core Infrastructure technologies (AD, O365, exchange, SAN Storage, etc.).

  • Help define technical solutions to meet business needs through Agile process.

  • Foster high-performance, collaborative technical work resulting in high-quality output.

  • Proactively automate infrastructure and services to enable a small team to deliver value to a global enterprise.
