About the Role:


Our Digital Team is currently recruiting a Lead AI Engineer. This role will further develop Woodsides AI team to build out capability that will deliver superior business outcomes. Initiatives around Digital Twins, Cognitive Advisers and Autonomous Operations are key areas where AI will be applied at scale. The role is to deliver and enable business solutions through building AI models using ML and DL/Neural networks, but more broadly linking data and decisions together. Applying domain knowledge, science, mathematics/statistics and computing/programming skills to deliver value from energy process data (Oil, Gas, Hydrogen, etc).

The role will be responsible for leading and directing the creation and review of a cross-function, enterprise approach for the use and development of leading-edge AI capabilities. Responsible for designing and developing scalable solutions using AI tools and machine learning models, collaborating with business stakeholders, business and technical SME's. The role will be responsible for fit-for-purpose AI methodology of owned projects and able to review projects delivered by other teams or third-party partners. The role will operate as an AI technical SME, overseeing technical integrity and quality of deliverables by junior team members. Provides technical development, coaching and mentorship to a team of junior AI Engineers.




Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Lead and direct the creation and review of cross-function, enterprise-wide approach for

  • Lead the organisations commitment to efficient and effective AI practices, developing a data driven problem solving culture within Woodside; Building a strong AI culture and technical
  • capability within Woodside.
  • Establish and manage cognitive methods, techniques and capabilities to enable the organisation
  • to analyse data, to generate insights, create value and drive decision making.
  • Partner with the business to identify opportunities to apply AI tools and machine learning models
  • to deliver value across the oil and gas value chain
  • Collaborate with domain experts to review similar problems, new technology and technical
  • material to understand and define problem
  • Lead and coach AI engineers through knowledge in the area of specialization.
  • Develop problems in AI terms, appreciating and investigating assumptions
  • underlying analysis, and assessing requirements and technical feasibility of project
  • Collaborate with SMEs on analysis and modelling processes to solve challenging and high impact problems in oil and gas exploration and production domains
  • Determine and communicate the limitations of technology, methods and their effects on the
  • conclusions
  • Communicate findings of technical analysis through reports, presentations and translate results
  • back into business language
  • Communicate arguments/issues to others clearly and accurately, in appropriate written and
  • verbal form, to address specific questions and deliver value
  • Manage successful implementation of solutions, ensuring training and knowledge transfer to
  • stakeholders
  • Manage and assure large, cross functional data-driven projects from end-to-end (i.e. problem identification to delivery)
  • Apply core AI skillset to solve high-value problems in deployed area
  • Engage with business and technical experts at all organisation levels to identify opportunities to
    apply AI techniques to deliver value across the oil and gas value chain
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and opportunities for collaboration between frontline business units to central data science team
  • Build familiarity and domain specific knowledge in deployed area of oil and gas value chain
  • Build relationships that drive an innovative cultural shift and foster base level competencies of AI, particularly through leadership of a technical community
  • Works closely with Woodside's Data Science and Technology teams to deliver value to our business at speed, scale and in a sustainable way.



Skills & Experience:


  • Competencies for AI Engineering include, software development, mathematics and applied application of AI solutions including model building using ML and DL/Neural networks, but more broadly linking data, models and decisions together.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Professional, organised approach clearly demonstrated in use of planning and documentation
  • Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts across the Energy value chain
  • Ability to rapidly learn and evaluate technical information to synthesise meaningful conclusions and recommendations
  • Project Management and Agile skills.
  • User centric design skills - being able to design solution that delivers business need with usability.
  • 10+ years extensive practical work experience in AI Engineering
  • Experience across the full end-to-end process of AI solutions and delivery
  • Experience with Vendor products, their applications and use (e.g. AWS,IBM, etc)
  • Experience with Tensorflow, PyTorch or similar.
  • Experience with interacting with business stakeholders
  • Experience with software engineering best practices (e.g. CI/CD, code repository, reproducible research, etc.)
  • Experience leading technical teams to deliver advanced, complex, technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. Degree level qualification (can come from broad background, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience in programming languages for data analysis and AI applications.
