As a key member of the Product Engineering & Development (PE&D) Team, the purpose of this role is to control, manage and coordinate the engineering and product development activities associated with the WCS vision product portfolio centred in our Perth Office. From time to time this will include providing technical input to the Business Development function through client presentations, tender development activities and technical marketing materials. Provide support to the Operation’s Team, as required on revenue project activities in order to facilitate the achievement of timely project delivery within budget and to agreed performance quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a system level viewpoint to evolution of both individual vision products and the overall portfolio.
  • Manage the hardware engineering and development activities associated with the Perth vision product portfolio in coordination with the PE&D team. This includes the preparation of all product documentation covering design, production, operation and maintenance activities.
  • For assigned product development projects, prepare and implement plans, monitor progress in respect of time, costs and quality.
  • Support the Operations team to ensure overall delivery and quality of the vision product to customers
  • Work with the Business Development team to support activities related to tendering, including technical assessment of tenders, preparation of tender responses and supporting presentations, as required
  • Promote and ensure the appropriate standards of health, safety and environmental management are adhered to;
  • Assist in the development of individual team members competence in respect to their disciplines
  • Provide accurate reporting up the management chain.
  • Help instill a culture throughout the business in line with the Wabtec values of Safety, Customer Focus, Continuous Improvement, Teamwork and Leadership.
Working Relationships

This position reports directly to the Director – PE&D.

The position has relationships across the Wabtec Control Systems business as follows:
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the Product Engineering & Development Team.
  • Work with and support the Operations Team in meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Manage assigned resources for a project in conjunction Director – PE&D, Engineering Support Manager, Production Manager and Software Manager(s).
  • Maintains and fosters relationships with various business stakeholders, including Track IQ Product Manager, Operations team, the broader Wabtec community and customers

The Incumbent Will Ideally Have

Qualifications and Skills
  • Tertiary level qualifications or equivalent in an engineering, science or software discipline
  • Industry experience working with electromechanical and software measurement systems
  • Hardware orientated technical skills
  • Experience working in the rail industry
  • Demonstrated experience in customer facing roles

The Following Skills/traits Are Essential
  • Technical management experience with ability to contribute to Tender preparation
  • Product development background with system level design knowledge
  • Clear, effective communication and English language skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to create formal product documentation.
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and drive changes for those processes.
  • Good management, organisational and interpersonal skills along with the ability and willingness to provide effective leadership and direction to a team.
