Metallurgical Coal Australia
Metallurgical coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate two open cut and three underground metallurgical coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, every year producing millions of tonnes of the highest quality hard coking coal for this purpose.

Job Description

As our Principal Electrical Engineer you will focus on ensuring the continuation of innovative growth with our technical developments and management of our Electrical Engineering disciple across Metallurgical Coal (Met Coal), ensuring they are compliant with the statutory requirements contained within the Coal Mining Act and Regulations, other regulatory and standard related requirements.

  • Ensure continuation of innovation across development of our Electrical Engineering Quality Management System, processes, procedures and routines within Metcoal for explosion protection, hazardous area, and safety critical electrical protection systems with respect to quality, certification, verification, compliance, governance, maintenance and overhaul
  • Identifying and delivering improvements that support a step change in performance across the Met Coal Business Unit
  • Securing synergies across electrical engineering activities through identification and transfer of leading practice and driving collaboration within the Met Coal Business Unit
  • Providing quality technical advice/expertise to the Met Coal Business Unit as required, including review of major plans and proposals
  • Manage the compliance and assurance to Anglo American Technical Standards relating to Electrical Engineering
  • Reviews safety critical electrical protection systems across Metcoal inclusive of inspection, verification and certification regimes

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will hold tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering and be RPEQ qualified. You will have extensive Underground Maintenance and Systems experience gained across a number of mining operations and will have a demonstrated ability to apply technology and innovation to drive improvements in operational performance. You will also possess a high level of critical strategic thinking, planning and complex problem-solving skills. Strong communication, collaboration and influencing skills will be key to your success in the role.

This is a Monday to Friday, Brisbane based role with the expectation of travel to site to facilitate effective execution of role objectives.
