Capability Building Manager

It includes the creation of a world class OneDevelopment organisation which will deliver one, consistent world-leading development support for GSK’s pipeline. Global Clinical Operations is integral to the success of the OneDevelopment organisation.

As the Capability Building Manager you will be responsible for designing capability building strategies and plans for the region to ensure achievement of upper quartile performance and fit for purpose quality. You will implement, measure effectiveness and continuously improve capabilities.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

Each Capability Building Manager will be accountable for Capability Building at a global level for a different major part of the Clinical Operations business e.g. for Vx and Rx Global Clinical Delivery, Data Strategy and Management, Global Monitoring and Site Engagement:

  • The manager will identify key capability gaps for each area on a global basis, develop a mutually agreed plan to close the gap and ensure the plan is operationalized and the gap closed. Capability solutions will be developed proactively in line with key business objectives and the upper quartile performance that Clinical Operations is striving for
  • Design, plan and deliver global and regional capability development programs / courses for Clinical Operations staff. This will require implementation of global/regional solutions, leadership of project teams and ownership of the capability strategy required for regulatory compliance and GSK’s license to operate
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, consistency and timeliness in Clinical Operations learning through development and optimal assignment of specific training curricula, leveraging the GLMS capability. Support rapid on-boarding of new staff
  • Delivery of learning solutions, directly and / or with Subject Matter Experts from the business to ensure learning objectives are met. This will include partnering with Written Standard (WS) authors/process owners and the Compliance Learning Team to implement effective learning on new/updated and simplified processes
  • Design, implement and embed effective knowledge management and continuous process improvement by driving an open learning culture that identifies and communicates key learnings for each GCO function e.g. facilitated After Action Reviews, chairing and facilitating live virtual learning events with 500+ attendees
  • Collaborate with Global Learning & Development, R&D Quality and if appropriate, external learning vendors to maximize efficiencies, standardize approaches, priorities, and areas for possible synergies
  • Ensure the provision of capability development programs at Investigators’ & Monitors’ meetings and any other meetings relevant to training/capability development for Clinical Operations roles
  • Development and provision of training metrics/KPIs/compliance/progress reports, to enable senior leadership teams to keep a clear focus on the capability of their Global Clinical Operations team
  • Maintain expert knowledge of GSK learning resources and delivery mechanisms e.g. Keep Growing campus, LinkedIn Learning, bite size learning, playlists
  • Maintain and deliver inspection readiness training materials tailored for each inspection to prepare Global Clinical Operations staff

To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have
  • Strong influencing, coaching and leadership abilities ideally with experience delivering training and providing mentoring support
  • A broad scientific/pharmaceutical/vaccines industry background in research and development 
  • Previous experience in assessment of capabilities 
  • Previous experience in adult technical learning/training design, delivery and evaluation 
  • Knowledge of essential regulatory guidelines world-wide and GSK company policies and procedures e.g. detailed knowledge of GSK SOPs, ICH and FDA regulations as they impact all aspects of drug development. 
  • Adult learning and/or training qualification (preferred)
  • Detailed knowledge of drug/vaccines development and clinical processes
  • An applied understanding of quality & internal control frameworks and risk management principles
  • Proven experience managing multiple external and internal stakeholders in a complex, matrix environment.
  • Bachelor degree in Science or a related field
