With the recent deployment of our new platform on Microsoft Azure, ipSCAPE is on a rapid growth path to expand to an even larger global customer base. This will require an enhanced operational and technical foundation for the company to achieve scale, resilience, and commercial viability, with the capability to manage several new clients and partners in multiple geographic regions.


ipSCAPE, therefore, seeks to expand its Technology team by appointing a Lead DevOps Engineer who can support the company as we complete our transition to this new environment. We are looking for a technically hands-on, innovative person, with good people management and interpersonal skills to join our team. As Lead DevOps Engineer, you will have a direct impact on the customer experience – we need someone passionate about technical excellence, with an intuitive product mindset.


Role overview 

As the Lead DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting our transition to the Microsoft Azure environment. You will be technically hands-on and lead the design and build of complex infrastructure, operational processes, and infrastructure automation. Your time will be divided into 80% hands-on DevOps and 20% sharing knowledge. You will have the overall responsibility of creating and improving development and operational capabilities, including:


  • Disaster recovery,
  • High systems availability,
  • Delivering a fully metered platform,
  • On-demand scalable solutions,
  • Integrated cloud environment; and
  • Infrastructure monitoring and continuous deployment capabilities.


As Lead DevOps Engineer, you will ensure that all projects are aligned and executed in accordance with Business vision and priorities. You will be the Azure 'expert'. This role will work in a collaborative environment alongside the Quality Assurance, Product Development, and Customer Support team.


Responsibilities

  • This role is 80 % Handson Azure DevOps / 20% Management
  • Influence and lead design efforts for the most secure and scalable environments that satisfy both operational and product needs in accordance with corporate guidelines
  • Ensure the platform is monitored and maintained in line with current industry standards
  • Deploy new product builds into production
  • Set relevant metrics to provide alerts and insights to production health to ensure high level of uptime using tools such as.- Grafana, Telegraf InfluxDB, New Relic, Azure
  • Troubleshoot and restore services with minimal guidance and service interruption
  • Resolve emergent service problems and build automated tools to identify/prevent problem recurrence
  • Effectively collaborate with cross-departmental project teams across platform and infrastructure projects and communicate to key internal and external stakeholders, including Customer Support, Technical Presales, Product Development, Quality Assurance, ipSCAPE clients, and third party technology/solutions suppliers


Required Skills and Qualifications 

  • 5+ years’ experience in a DevOps role
  • Experience in production critical environments
  • Proven experience with build and development tools e.g. Terraform or/and Kubernetes, Vagrant, Docker, Packer, Git, Maven, and programming language for managing infrastructure as a code
  • Deep knowledge of RHEL OR Centos OR Oracle Linux – Version 7 and 8 
  • Solid experience with managing MySQL database
  • Experience with Apache HTTPD or Tomcat
