Brisbane City Council’s Information Services Branch (ISB) is currently going through an exciting period of change and realignment and has a number of key technology and process initiatives with a focus on innovation, streamlining ICT solutions and stronger alignment to our customers. These include getting ready for Cloud and software-as-a-service solutions and structuring ISB to increase transparency and value to the business. 

An opportunity for a Senior DevOps Engineer with both private and public cloud experience has become available to join our Cloud Operational Services team within ISB, to automate and standardise processes for infrastructure builds and deployments to On Premise, Cloud, Hybrid Cloud, IaaS and SaaS services. This highly advanced technical role will support the automation of environment hygiene and environment consistency to drive a cost saving initiatives across compute, storage and relevant applications. You will be the technical liaison between Council and our Infrastructure Services vendors for the automation of functions affecting server operating systems (Windows and Linux) and virtualisation technologies (VMware and OVM) and their interaction with other systems. 

Contributing to supporting strategy and architecture for cloud deployment platforms for the future including private, public, and hybrid cloud configurations, you will have a particular focus on the assessment of current capabilities and design of future state architecture to meet the growing need for high performing and flexible compute environments including PaaS, IaaS, and SaaS solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a collaborative, high preforming and customer focused team dedicated to providing innovative and best practice IT operational solutions for Council.

This is a temporary full-time position up to 2 years. There may be an opportunity for extension or permanency thereafter, but not guaranteed.

To be successful you will have:

  • technical experience working with infrastructure services on premise and cloud based platforms;
  • experience in the use of scripting technologies, versioning, and automation tools (PowerShell, GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible, Puppet, Chef or similar);
  • experience in managing operations automation utilising Infrastructure as a Code;
  • ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and external service providers;
  • experience coaching and guiding technical teams;
  • well-developed interpersonal and communication skills;
  • ability to develop, document and maintain Infrastructure Services standards, guidelines, and procedures; and
  • ITIL version 3 or higher certification and or relevant Tertiary qualification (desirable).
