Job Description

BESIX Watpac are looking for an experienced safety manager to join our NSW business heading up our safety function across numerous large scale commercial and infrastructure projects. Duties of the role will include but not be limited to the following;

  • Comply with company safety policies, practises and procedures and conform to WHS legislative requirements to provide a safe workplace at all times.
  • Establishment and maintenance of the WHS system as set out in the WHS Act.
  • Advise site and head office senior management of any site safety breaches and provide an Audit Report.
  • To establish appropriate educational programs in occupational health and safety, including the site induction process.
  • To set up suitable recording mechanisms so that relevant safety information is properly compiled and easily accessible. Prepare and distribute WHS reports as required.
  • To assist in the co-ordination and implementation of Watpac's Corporate and Operational WHS Management System as it relates to project WHS issues.
  • Establish a regime of formal audits to ensure the SMS is being implemented.
  • Investigate any serious bodily injuries, illnesses and/or dangerous occurrences, and report findings to site and senior management. Ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Conduct WHS safety training for Watpac project personnel.
  • Compile and implement safety procedures for the Compare
  • Prepare material for safety alerts.
  • Prepare and schedule audiometric testing for all employees.
  • Advise head office senior management in current safety legislation and in any changes to statutory requirements.
  • Co-ordinate safety consultants, as required, for the training of management and employees.
  • Review the training needs of staff and construction workers as related to safety.

The incumbent in this role will require the following qualifications and experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in OH&S or a related discipline, or suitable experience.
  • Previous experience as a Safety Manager for a building/construction organisation or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to communicate, influence and build effective relationships at all levels of the business with a particularly strong internal customer focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills through development of productive relationships with colleagues and team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proven high level of professionalism, maturity, candour and confidentiality in daily work ethic.
