About Us

The City of Whittlesea is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia and as a Local Government organisation we play a pivotal role in the everyday lives of our community. Our vision is to make Whittlesea 2040: A Place For All by ensuring our residents can enjoy access to local services, facilities, and infrastructure.

Our staff are passionate, skilled, experienced, and diverse, providing a great environment to work in and succeed.

The City of Whittlesea Public Realm
Located on the northern edge of metropolitan Melbourne our municipality covers an area of approximately 489km2, of which around 70% is rural and 30% is urban. The Urban Growth Boundary separates the well-established and developing suburbs to the south and rural and designated Green Wedge Land to the north.
Over 2,500 new houses are built here each year and a wealth of new streetscapes, parks, and other open space assets are constructed along with them by property developers and Council. The City of Whittlesea has a great record of providing quality community open spaces and protecting the natural environment amid this growth, supported by our open space strategy and strong conservation and environment provisions in our local planning scheme.

The Role
Join our experienced team and make a difference in our community!
This role presents a unique opportunity to drive high quality, functional and vibrant landscape design outcomes for our emerging growth suburb communities.
As a member of our highly skilled Landscape Development Assessment Team you will assess landscape master plans, concept plans, and detailed landscape construction documentation against our guidelines, and work collaboratively with developers and other stakeholders to drive best practice and excellence in landscape design.
You will follow these designs through the delivery stage, providing problem-solving assistance and advice to staff who oversee the construction of developer-led landscape elements. The completed assets are then handed over to our maintenance and operations team as part of Council’s permanent public space provision.

About you
You are a motivated and experienced Landscape Architect, with a naturally analytical mind, strong written and verbal communication skills and a keen eye for detail. You are creative, passionate, and able to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
You will ideally have experience in growth area subdivisions and knowledge of the associated Local Government planning processes, along with a strong understanding of landscape construction techniques. You will be able to communicate and coordinate with a diverse range of Council staff to prepare, read and interpret strategic planning documents, functional layout plans, and planning permits and will have a genuine commitment to driving quality outcomes for our community.
