How will I help?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Network Support Engineer to join Westpac’s Software Defined Networks team, the biggest SDN environment in Australia. This person will be responsible for keeping the branch and corporate site services up and running Australia wide; supporting the delivery of reliable, high performance technology infrastructure to the Westpac Group and assisting with upgrade projects. This is the ideal opportunity for those wanting to work in an advanced environment with the latest technologies, and be part a very supportive, high performing team. The team are pushing the boundaries within the SDN space, with a focus on modernising and simplifying.

You’ll be involved in the following responsibilities:

  • Provide specialised networking first level support and technical assistance including but not limited to; routing & switching, patching, WiFi troubleshooting, testing, and upgrade projects.
  • Taking ownership and working closely with networking and infrastructure teams, assist with the monitoring and investigating of SDN issues and drive resolution.
  • Plan and review proposed changes and implement to ensure successful implementation of infrastructure changes.
  • Provide technical consultation to internal stakeholders and provide product recommendations.
  • Undertake problem determination and root cause analysis to ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented appropriately.
  • Make recommendations and assist in the implementation of SDN solutions.
  • Support project delivery groups to ensure the development and maintenance of effective SDN infrastructure within the Westpac Group.

What do I need?

To be successful in this Network Support Engineer role you’ll ideally have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar networking support role, you’ll also have:

  • Basic understanding and experience supporting network infrastructure including routing and switching.
  • Experience with Cisco SD-WAN, Cisco DNAC, Cisco Wi-Fi and implementation.
  • Self-motivated, driven, and an excellent communicator.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to pick things up quickly.
  • Exposure in programming language such as SQL or Python would be highly advantageous but not essential.
  • Ideally, you’ll have SDN knowledge using Viptela, although this is not essential.
