Freelancer Limited seeks a suitably qualified Security Engineer with an interest in threat-detection, threat-management, threat-response and incident management to join our security team.

Security Blue Team Engineers play a critical role in threat-management across all areas of the business. You’ll address product and engineering security, infrastructure security, enterprise security and marketplace platform security.

  • Provide threat-detection, threat-management, threat-response and incident response for the corporate and the operating business units.
  • Develop, update and practice security run-books for reasonably expected security incidents.
  • Take ownership of security incidents, managing stakeholders, forensic data collection, law-enforcement engagement, internal product improvement
  • Take ownership of threat management at the production edge including WAF systems, logging systems and anomaly detection systems.
  • Perform passive threat-monitoring, threat-detection and manage third-party threat feeds and threat-detection services.
  • Oversee the implementation, automation, monitoring, and improvement of security controls throughout the organisation.
  • Provide security best-practice advice and guidance to product-management, engineering and other staff, through regular staff interaction and talks etc.
  • Provide cyber-security technology review capacity for company product/service acquisition.
  • Maintain awareness of both the external and internal security landscape.


  • Security is your passion. You are up to date with the latest technologies, best practices, security threats and threat actor techniques.
  • Your primary background is within a cyber-security discipline with experience in threat modelling, security design reviews, and security architecture.
  • You have experience in managing security incidents and you are comfortable in working with law-enforcement.
  • You have at least 3 years previous experience on a security red-team or security blue-team.
  • You have an advanced understanding of internet protocols and web technologies together with the typical vulnerabilities among them.
  • You are experienced with an interpreted programming language (PHP, Python, Perl, Ruby, etc.)
  • You are familiar with a cloud compute environment (AWS, GCP, etc) including best security practices.
  • You have experience with a security compliance framework such as NIST, ISO27k or others.
  • You may have certificate qualifications from Offensive Security, EC-Council, SANS or other similar organisations - favourable, not required.
  • You are a fan of open source software, continuous learning, and sharing information.
  • You are results driven and understand taking a risk based approach to security.
