Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Trelleborg is currently seeking an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join our Project Engineering Group.

You will be responsible for reviewing technical design packages within projects and generating a complete set of client and manufacturing documentation. Where required, the EC&I Engineer will coordinate supply activities to ensure a compliant project design is fully tested, documented and delivered on time.

Duties Include, But Not Limited To

  • Project specific Engineering Design :

Design & draft equipment to meet project requirements based on:

Project deliverables meeting with Trelleborg Marine Systems and customer requirements as well as relevant standards (IEC, AS, ISO etc.), use of standard products and industry best practice.

Modifications to existing standard products

New Designs

Products designed & manufactured to Trelleborg Marine Systems Specifications, third Party product sourcing & review, assist in generating Project Specific Technical Documentation, post award documentation (includes technical specification documents, general assembly drawings, schematics, interconnections and bills of material)

Manufacturing Documentation

As Built documentation

Review of Material Data Records & Inspection Test Plans.

Action and managing sourcing of BOM components and assemblies using ERP system, co-ordinate and communicate project requirements and deliverables with the production department, and working with production team to ensure any manufacturing issues are resolved promptly and efficiently, configure field instrumentation, setup and configure TMS product integration software, assist with functional system integration and FAT testing, gain and share knowledge of AS61508 and other functional safety standards/practices, experience in IEC Hazardous Area certification principals and practice,


Ensure that design is carried out to ISO9001 requirements with suitable review, testing and documentation performed, integration of Fieldbus Networks such as Modbus, DeviceNet, CanOpen, Profibus

Integration of Communication Network over varies cable types

Electrical control systems design, testing and commissioning (e.g. PLC based, Motor Control Cabinets), PLC & SCADA software system development, including functional descriptions, coding, testing and commissioning. Company library standard function block development and maintenance. 5-7 years hands on industrial software development with an emphasis on industrial process systems.

Application Expertise

Develop and manage technical and manufacturing documentation for standard products and provide input to the Sales & Marketing function.

Key Strategic Initiatives

Provide input to and action continuous improvement initiatives within the Project Engineering Group and Project’s workflow.

To be considered for the position the candidate must have:

University Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of Trade, Tertiary qualifications and/or Professional Ticket, 5-7 years working experience in electrical and/or instrumentation and/or control environment with a Manufacturer, Contractor, Vendor or End User.

Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, Mining – Mineral processing experience would be advantageous.

An Australian or New Zealand citizen or have a valid visa for working in Australia.

The ideal candidate would hold the following characteristics;

Understand basic electrical design and control/automation philosophy principles

Understand fieldbus and communication cable types

Understand basic electrical load calculation formulas and component specification

Understand various electrical component installation and wiring methods

Understand drawing and documents revision control practices

Proficient in MS Excel

Proficient in AutoCAD and/or E-Plan

Proficient in programming on Siemens or Beckhoff PLC’s

Superior problem diagnosis and solving skills

High and appropriate attention to detail

Excellent verbal and written skills in English

Positive, energetic and self-motivated

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent knowledge and practical experience of relevant electrical component specification and selection.

Experience working within a quality system
