Title: Safety Manager – Green Fleet Development

Work location: Perth based (Hazelmere)

Roster: 5/2 roster (Mon to Fri)

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our Shipping, rail and mining fleets.

Based at our new Hazelmere R&D facility, we are looking for a highly experienced Safety Professional to lead the Green Fleet projects in all facets of HSE.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Providing visible leadership to the HSE team and promoting a culture of zero harm
  • The development of Safety Management Systems for using Ammonia and Hydrogen and high voltage battery systems on ships, rail and heavy mining equipment.
  • Development of Safety Case documents to go to local, state and federal agencies for approval.
  • Lead the risk management process for Green Fleet Development program.
  • Developing a resource plan reflecting the HSE needs of the business, as well as processes to ensure these needs are met
  • Coaching the leadership and HSE team members to ensure ongoing development of the team and recognition of performance
  • Championing the Contractor Management System and the Major Hazards Management projects
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of all HSE performance reporting
  • Monitoring the implementation of HSE improvement projects and cost reduction initiatives

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Previous experience working in a senior HSE leadership role, ideally in the Chemical or Vehicle Manufacturing sector
  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or equivalent
  • Strong understanding and application of legislative and regulatory requirements specifically with chemical safety - green hydrogen and ammonia experience highly advantageous
  • Previous experience with chemical safety risk management strategies and systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and build effective relationships at all levels
  • Strategic planning and project management skills with an understanding of budget administration
  • Well-developed leadership, coaching and facilitation skills
