About Our Operation

Peak Downs is a large open cut coking cola mine in Queensland located 31 km SSE of Moranbah. Peak Downs is one of seven mines in Bowen Basin owned by BMA, Australia’s largest coal miner and exporter. Production at Peak Downs started in 1972. The Peak Downs mine produces coking coal, which is transported to the Hay Point Terminal south of Mackay.

About The Role

Reporting to the Superintendent Reliability Engineering, you will be part of a team of Reliability Engineers and Specialists who drive the Maintenance performance and benchmarking through defect elimination, continuous improvement, strategy and reliability fundamentals.

Your key focus will be on executing Reliability improvements and the elimination of defects in the end-to-end maintenance system inclusive of defects in parts, procedures, work quality and processes.

This role is based at our Peak Downs Mine site and the successful candidate will have options to choose from DIDO or living residentially in the nearby town of Dysart or Moranbah in subsidised accommodation. FIFO options may also be available.

In This Role You Will

  • Build business partnerships and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the business
  • Analyse performance metrics and benchmark performance across the site and other BHP businesses
  • Perform detailed analysis of condition monitoring data, initiate maintenance strategies and changes to mitigate emerging risks
  • Support the development of operating standards, procedures and work instructions (operational and maintenance)
  • Analyse life of plant, equipment, infrastructure to determine equipment capability and optimisation of maintenance activities
  • Perform detailed analysis of end-to-end work processes, master data, work instructions and organisation design to identify inefficiencies in work execution
  • Initiate root cause analysis and “failure type” reviews


About You
  • Background in engineering or equivalent with relevant reliability and asset management experience with heavy mobile or fixed plant equipment
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronic, Structural)
  • Knowledge of defect elimination and root cause analysis experience coupled with analytical, problem solving skills
  • Experience developing maintenance strategies and plans
  • Exposure to cost reduction strategies with financial and commercial acumen
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to support cross-departmental engagement and effective communication throughout multiple levels of the business
  • Experience with SAP and Asset Management Software will be advantageous
