About the organisation
The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) is the agency responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance with the Building Act and its regulations. The VBA regulates building and plumbing practitioners to ensure the achievement of efficient, safe and competitive outcomes. The Office of the State Building Surveyor provides authoritative industry leadership for industry enhancement initiatives to improve compliance and safety outcomes for the building and plumbing industry.
About the role
In this newly created position, the Director of the Office of the State Building Surveyor will create a Centre for Technical Excellence to support the building and plumbing environments in Victoria. Leading a multi-disciplinary team of technical business units and professionals, the Executive Director will provide support and high-level strategic advice to the State Building Surveyor on audit, inspection, technical and regulatory issues, and overall operational strategy. With a strong stakeholder focus, the appointee will proactively engage with industry groups and various government departments and working groups, as well as representing the VBA at industry forums, statutory boards and committees. Critical to success in this role is fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. This includes initiating and delivering strong customer outcomes while championing a risk-based approach to regulation to ensure the VBA operates as a leading, contemporary regulator.
About you
Tertiary qualified in an engineering, business, legal, finance or policy-related disciplines, you are a proven executive-level leader of complex technical advisory teams. Analytical and pragmatic, you have a collaborative approach to complex solving that addresses emerging issues and supports a future vision. With deep experience in developing and implementing strategic plans, you make evidence-based decisions that enhance the efficiency of operations and business deliverables. You present with a track record of leading project teams to deliver organisation-wide projects and enterprise-level continuous improvement programs. Known for your sound judgement and discretion, you balance competing demands in managing sensitive and highly complex issues. Adept at developing productive relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders, you are comfortable and confident influencing at the most senior levels of industry and government, including at Ministerial level. Play a key role in this high-profile role in fulfilling VBA’s vision to be a prominent, trusted voice in the industry and a best-practice, independent regulator.
