The Role

We’re looking for a Principal Engineer to join the Technology Service Management (TSM) team to influence and enable the strategic project pipeline and business as usual practices. This includes supporting the achievement of targeted outcomes within project, improving governance standards and working through complex processes and technology problems.

The Principal Engineer influences the process and technology adoption of industry best practices as applied to our business across Suncorp technology domains. The role is critical to the implementation of ITSM practices ensuring our technology selection and roadmaps deliver the required business needs and improve our cost efficacy and reduce Suncorp’s risk position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive continuous improvement through leading data lead investigations that returns value to Suncorp and its customers.
  • Working with TSMs Technology Leads to develop a roadmap to manage initiatives, risks, issues, aligned to our TSM strategies.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and governance to track initiatives to completion and successful handover and transition to BAU.
  • Implement Service Management best practice in accordance to financial industry practices, ways of working and technology section.
  • Provide regular project level status reports as required to stakeholders and governing bodies.
  • Influence the improvements and efficiencies of ITSM in a way that builds a culture and knowledge of the TSM team using agile methodology where appropriate.
  • Coaching and mentoring of key delivery staff including Project Managers, Business Analysts, Stream Leads etc. to allow for the successful delivery of the projects and improvement of BAU.
  • Through leadership and drive, create a project environment which results in exceptional staff and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that the program approach and deliverables are in compliance with delivery standards and architectural models.
  • Advising and reporting to Executive sponsors across Technology & Transformation and the wider Group to ensure there is visibility and alignment on deliverables, key dates and management of risks and issues.

Skills & Experience

  • 7+ years of experience implementing Service Management with a track record of delivery and improvement. This includes expertise of monitoring, event, scheduling, data transformation and integration technologies. 
  • Experience in managing Service Management frameworks for an Enterprise sized company.
  • Banking and Finance Industry experience.
  • Experienced in various project management disciplines – PMBOK, Agile etc.
  • Membership of related professional bodies (such as Australian Institute of Project Management) well regarded
  • Systematic and disciplined approach to planning, organising, decision making and delegation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and conceptual thinking skills
  • Financial literacy to forecast and manage budgets
  • Experience leading others successfully through cultural, process, system and transformational change
