Strong demand for our services throughout Australia and internationally has created a great opportunity for an experienced Blast and Ballistics Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be part of a team who provides world-class training facilities to develop and maintain a Defence, Security and Law Enforcement mission critical capability. Such facilities require innovative approaches to solve the challenges inherent in high consequence training facilities using complex ammunition and weapon systems. Opportunities will exist to contribute to projects within our other Market Sectors also.

Having extensive knowledge and experience with explosive ordnance, blast and ballistics, the successful applicant will be accustomed and comfortable working within a multiple project, multidisciplinary environment displaying the capability to deliver innovative structural blast and ballistic solutions ensuring work is delivered on time and to budget.

You will join an energetic and dynamic integrated infrastructure design team delivering the latest in specialist security training facilities and explosive ordnance storage facilities for Defence and other Security and Law Enforcement Agencies. The role will require design, delivery and technical innovation and refresh of facilities nationally and internationally.

What you will bring to the role:

  • CPEng (Civil) (Chartered Engineer), MSc (WES), BEng (Civil) or equivalent and RPEQ is highly desirable and if not, conscientiously working towards achieving it
  • Experience in blast and ballistic assessments for Defence and Law Enforcement
  • Military and operational experience is desirable
  • Enthusiastic to learn and committed to developing a career among like-minded professionals
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong report writing skills
  • Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise conflicting priorities
  • An ability to work with colleagues around the globe, and communicate effectively at any level will be crucial to your success
  • Proactive, self-starter who can work independently and in a team environment
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to take on technical challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem solving ability and commitment to quality results under schedule deadlines
Active areas of research or an interest to learn include, but are not limited to:
  • Protective Concepts and Systems Against Forced Entry
  • Blast and Ballistic Protection Systems Evaluation
  • Mitigation of Internal Blast Effects
  • Protective Systems for Infrastructure and Asset Survivability Against Cased Munitions
  • Blast and Ballistic Protection for Guided Munitions
  • The near-term technical focus will look at protective structural effects for blast windows, structures and doors
  • Experience in understanding of explosive blast effects and blast mitigation is desirable
  • Experience with high speed cameras, instrumentation, and data analysis techniques (such as digital image correlation) is desirable.
