“Are you a qualified and experienced Building Surveyor looking for a new challenge?”

IRP is seeking a Building Surveyor who will be responsible for ensuring that all proposed building work within the Shire complies with the relevant legislation and provide excellent customer service to educate stakeholders toward compliance. As a key part of the one of the fastest Local Government organizations in WA located south of the river. Your role will consist of but is not limited to the below:

  • Process certified building applications for all classes of buildings to ensure compliance with the Building Act 2011, Building Regulations 2012, and Other relevant Acts, codes, standards, regulations, and Local Laws.
  • Process uncertified building applications for class 1 and 10's to ensure compliance with:
  • The Building Code of Australia.
  • The Building Act 2011, Building Regulations 2012; and
  • Other relevant Acts, Codes, standards, regulations, and Local Laws.
  • Issue Certificate of Compliance (CDC's, CBC's, CCC's) in accordance with building surveyor certificate of qualification.
  • When directed, issue building permits, demolition permits and Occupancy Permits.
  • Undertake inspection of existing and new swimming pool fences for compliance.
  • Ensure all records relating to building and swimming pools are maintained and provide relevant reports as required by the Manger Health and Building.
  • When directed, attend development control meetings, and provide information relating to building control matters. Report the meeting's outcomes to the team.
  • Provide technical comments and reports relating to building control matters to internal and external customers.
  • Accompany authorized building surveyors to site inspections and meetings, draft relevant responses and provide reports as required to:
  • Administer the organizations statutory and operational requirements.
  • Ensure an adequate response to service requests and complaints.
  • Assess and/or audit relevant approval conditions granted as the Permit Authority.
  • Where directed, Investigate alleged unauthorized building activities.
When directed, attend building surveying related training courses.

Essential Criteria * “C” class driver's license.
  • Enrolled in a recognized course of study to become a building surveyor.
  • Knowledge of State Building legislation, Building Code of Australia, and Residential Design Codes.
  • A commitment to providing high level of internal and external customer service.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize work and use initiative to attain relevant outcomes.
  • High level of computer skills.
Desirable Criteria * Sound knowledge of relevant and current Statutory requirements, Acts and Local laws.
  • Progress towards Level 1, 2 or 3 Building Surveyor practitioner registered in Western Australia or, undertaking a recognized course of study to become a registered building surveyor in WA.
  • Experience with the use of Technology One.
