We are currently seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to join our Mining team. This is a permanent, full-time position at the Leonora Operations. Your focus will be to lead a team of Mining Engineers to support the safe and successful design, planning and execution of operational mining activities for our underground gold mine at Gwalia.

The opportunity

  • Ensure the health and safety of all personnel who work in the Gwalia mine.
  • Review and approve Weekly Schedules, Monthly Plans, Quarterly Forecasts and Annual Budgets.
  • Review and approve Stope and Development Designs that will optimise the extraction of Gwalia mine ore bodies.
  • Review and approve the Drill & Blast designs, Ventilation and Backfill plans to optimise the extraction of the Gwalia mine ore bodies.
  • Ensure mining performance physicals are tracked and reported correctly.
  • Contribute productively in an acting capacity as required as a member of the Technical Services Department Leadership Team.

What we will expect from you

  • You should feel a strong alignment with St Barbara’s values as you will be required to live them. You will use our values, along with our five commitments, to guide your decision making as you work for the safety and wellbeing of our people.
  • You are able to produce a National Police Clearance (valid within the last 12 months) for site access purposes.
  • You have a current unencumbered West Australian ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
  • You are degree qualified in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • You have at least seven (7) years relevant underground hard rock mining experience, of which no less than five (5) years in technical engineering roles is critical for this role.
  • You are knowledgeable and experienced across hard rock, underground mining environments with a coaching and mentoring approach to developing a team of skilled and capable engineers.
  • You have a solid understanding of Deswik software, particularly using the CAD and Scheduler modules.
