IT/Telco Network & Project Engineer (24 Month Fixed Term Contract)

We are NSW’s bulk water supplier, river operator and your one-stop shop for licensing, water trades and water information. We supply two thirds of water used in NSW from our 42 dams, rivers and pipelines to regional towns, irrigators, Sydney Water and local water utilities. We also own and operate the largest surface and groundwater monitoring network in the southern hemisphere and build, maintain and operate essential infrastructure.

This role reports to the Program Manager of Telecommunications and is based at our Parramatta Office (24 Month Contract). The purpose of this role is to deliver improvements to WaterNSW’s voice, data, SCADA and radio infrastructure, transition to operations; and put safety first.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Engage with stakeholders, audit sites, and negotiate requirements for site specific telecommunications to meet business needs.
  • Develop and maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
  • Control project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.
  • Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with Telecommunications Architects and key stakeholders to design improvements to site-based telecommunications.
Skills and Qualifications required:
  • Relevant tertiary computing qualifications and/or relevant substantial telecommunications and network experience
  • Knowledge and experience with networking bearers e.g. optical fibre, PLC, point-point radio/microwave and ethernet circuits/copper, networking technologies/access transport systems including LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, MPLS, VPN and supporting infrastructure such as switches, routers, control and monitoring equipment.
  • Experience field implementations including installation, configuration, testing, commissioning, and implementation reporting for handover
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design, implementation, operation, management and support of network devices, communications hardware and software
  • Proven substantial project management and technical expertise and experience in telecommunications environments, including design, installation, configuration, administration, and security at a senior level
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
