Contribute to the development of a strong safety culture within VICSES by providing expert advice on WH&S issues in order to ensure compliance with VICSES Safety Management System, managing the Safegate system reporting, evaluating the risk and undertaking corrective actions as required to ensure regulatory requirements

WHO WE ARE: Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer based emergency service. Our highly skilled and equipped Volunteers are trained comprehensively in a wide range of emergency environments. To minimise the impact of emergencies when they occur and strengthen the community's capacity to recover swiftly and safely, VICSES focuses on working with communities and partners in building resilience to achieve more aware, informed and prepared communities. We support them to understand their risk and the relevance of taking action before, during and after emergency events. As the largest road rescue network in Australia we have specialist teams that provide a 24/7 response to road accident and trauma incidents. We assist Victoria Police in search and rescue operations, and play an important role in supporting the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), Parks Victoria and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) during major bushfire and emergency incidents. VICSES is committed to being a child safe organisation. VICSES offers Flexible Working Arrangements and where possible, Job Sharing may also be considered.

 ROLE SUMMARY: Reporting directly to the WHS Manager this role will take on the autonomous responsibility of ensuring the safe process of work being undertaken and where unsafe, provide meaningful solutions in a timely manner to mitigate risk.

This role will require travel to regional offices and volunteer-lead units.

The position being offered is a VPS 4.1, Fixed Term, Full Time, up until 30 June 2022. During this time, VICSES are anticipating a reorganisation which could impact and change this position.

ACCOUNTABILITIES: Contribute to the development of a strong safety culture within VICSES by providing expert advice to Unit Controllers, regional staff and management on WH&S issues in order to ensure compliance with VICSES Safety Management System, managing the Safegate system reporting, evaluating the risk and undertaking corrective actions as required to ensure regulatory requirements

Enhance and promote VICSES safety culture by participating in consultation committees and procurement taskforces, reviewing vehicles and equipment from a WH&S perspective, ensuring that VICSES safety standards are met.

Support the development of a competent and motivated workforce that is committed to safety by providing coaching and advice to Unit Controllers, regional staff and management. This includes strong persuasion skills to encourage members at all levels to change behaviour and increase the application of WH&S responsibilities across the organisation. Enhance VICSES' safety culture by conducting ICAM investigations of any potentially high risk hazards and incidents, and monitoring corrective actions in accordance with VICSES WH&S and Play Your Part Management Systems.
