The Role

The Tesla Energy Product and Service Engineering team is looking for a passionate, collaborative, and skilled Product Engineer to join the team to support the explosive growth of our Storage fleet. As the fleet grows, Tesla is also committed to having an industry-leading uptime in our deployed fleet of commercial and utility scale batteries. We use data collected from our highly connected systems to find problems before the customer does and to systematically eliminate the causes of downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and determine the root cause of design, process, or firmware failures in our fleet of energy storage systems
  • Leading the effort to quickly diagnose, resolve and document field issues and train our support teams to ensure our customers are delighted using our products
  • Contribute to the development of internal software/tools for the Service Engineering and Field Team
  • Work and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Determine root cause of product field failures by working with field team and engineering, software/firmware teams and drive improvements through design, software/firmware or manufacturing changes
  • Provide support on escalated customer cases in order to minimize system downtime

Requirements
  • BS in electrical or electronic engineering with minimum 2 years of experience or MS degree in product development, reliability engineering, failure analysis, systems test engineering, product quality, renewable energy or service engineering
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and intuition, applied to firmware/software-enabled mechatronic systems
  • Strong prior experience troubleshooting electrical, networking, software/firmware, or process failure modes
  • Excellent oral, written communication and collaborative skills
  • Experience using Python, SQL or equivalent for data analysis
  • Quality conscious with an attention to detail
  • Ability to positively contribute to team dynamics
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and ability to work in a high pressure environment
  • A proven ability to work independently and achieve results; remaining flexible and responsive to changes in requirements
  • Work travel is expected in this job. This would include traveling interstate and if required, abroad
