This opportunity enables you to be a key contributor to the development and maintenance of Caterpillar’s broad mining technology portfolio. This Engineering Manager role is accountable to establish and oversee global, cross-functional technical teams responsible for the development and life-cycle management of underground and surface technology products and projects. In this role, you will work closely with New Product Introduction (NPI) program managers, product support supervisors, continuous product improvement (CPI) team members, supply chain teams, commercial teams, and end customers to set product strategies, define and drive development programs, evaluate product performance as applied and define enhancements, ensure proper technical support is provided to deployment and product support teams, and facilitate product maintenance. You will be responsible for collaborating with machine product groups, process partners, suppliers, and technical leaders to align technology product strategies, development timelines, execute projects, and optimize R&D investments. The incumbent for this role will be expected to ensure product requirements and strategies are defined, plan and manage budgets, plan and manage short term and longer term resource requirements, mentor and coach direct reports and Enterprise team members, grow his/her global professional network within the technology and mining space and, stay abreast and understand innovative and disruptive technologies. This role will require regular interactions and communications with dealers and external customers, specifically in support of field follow/trial programs.

Successful individuals will have the ability to draw upon foundational product development skills such as: conceptual design and design optimization techniques; data analysis and extraction; failure mode identification, prevention, and mitigations; requirements management; and cost-value management. The ability to draw upon knowledge of more than one engineering function, technology, component, system, product, or process is required. This role requires good business acumen and long-range business strategic planning based on understanding of technology and the customers’ business and needs.

Previous team leadership experience and organization skills are necessary. Advanced program management skills are critical. Position requires excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive issues, mentor and coach and/or persuade others on new technologies, new applications, or potential solutions.


BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Typically this position will require an accredited Engineering degree or a closely related technical degree with at least 10 years of experience. An advanced degree is highly desired. In lieu of an accredited Engineering or Technical degree, this level of a position will generally require at least 20 years of progressive responsibilities, directly related experience. Prefer minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
