About the Position
The city of Gold Coast is currently undertaking a $150m upgrade of its largest Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). The STP Upgrade will increase the capacity of the Coombabah STP by 120,000 EP to cater for a population of 465,000 people. Construction activities on site are underway and being managed by our STP Upgrade Program team in conjunction with the Principal’s Engineer, Stantec/WSP JV.

The Senior Project Engineer – STP Upgrade Program will be a key member of our STP Upgrade team who will ensure day to day construction activities are implemented in accordance with the the City's Project Requirements.

Key Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the works are constructed in accordance with state safety and environmental legislation;
  • Ensure the works are constructed in accordance with the project specifications and the Preliminary Design;
  • Respond to Contractor technical queries and requests for information;
  • Witness key construction activities to ensure a high quality outcome is achieved;
  • Ensure all key stakeholders (internal and external) are consulted during construction should the contractor propose any changes to the preliminary design, including but is not limited to our internal STP Process and Operations Teams;
  • Assist the Major STP Upgrade Program Manager to develop accurate project status reporting, including forecasting expenditure and timelines, and ensure that scope, financial and timeline variations are managed in accordance with the City's expectations;
  • Assist the Major STP Upgrade Program Manager, particularly from a technical perspective, in the commercial/contract management of the upgrade; and
  • Assist with the contract administration process, including correspondence and handover coordination, and liaison with all stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity for a person with an engineering background to join our STP Upgrade Team to deliver these City shaping projects. The position sits within the Asset Solutions branch of the Water and Waste (WW) Directorate.

About You
You will have a minimum of 10 years’ civil or mechanical engineering experience in the delivery of conventional water and/or sewerage infrastructure. You will have design/constructability and project management experience, together with knowledge and expertise in more than one relevant engineering discipline involving water or sewerage infrastructure delivery. Ideally, you would have lead, or been involved in, a major project team that has delivered a large STP upgrade, working for a Principal Contractor. You are now looking to make a move and experience project delivery from the client’s perspective, on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

  • Ability to plan and organise self and others to ensure the timely completion of tasks;
  • Deliver a high quality service to internal and external customers, and understands and reacts responsively to customer expectations;
  • Highly developed language, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills - including mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution;
  • Ability to perform effectively in a team environment and foster good relationships as part of a high performing team;
  • Ability to prioritise problems, think laterally, gather and analyse information to identify symptoms and causes, and engage the right people to reach better outcomes;
  • Experience in project management and/or project design management with the ability to coordinate and manage project scope and resources to achieve work goals within deadlines;
    Practical construction experience.

About Asset Solutions
As part of the City of Gold Coast Water and Waste Directorate, the Asset Solutions Branch works in close liaison with our Service Sustainability Branch to design and develop infrastructure based on business needs to meet community growth, and asset renewal requirements, and with the Network Reliability and System Control Branches to meet operational improvement objectives.

Asset Solutions is responsible for the design, construction and acceptance of assets to ensure a sufficient and continuous supply of safe and reliable drinking water and recycled water to meet the community’s needs and expectations. The Asset Solutions Branch is also responsible for the design, construction and acceptance of assets to ensure the safe collection, treatment, disposal and reuse of wastewater (and residues) for the protection of human health and safety.
