Role Details

Gold Fields - Granny Smith is currently seeking an Engineer: Planning to join their Technical Services department.

Reporting to the Senior Engineer: Mine Planning, you will facilitate the safe and optimal extraction of gold from underground mining operations. In compliance with site Environmental and Safety Standards, you will be responsible for all mining aspects including delivering detailed mine planning and designs required to meet short, medium, and long term mine plan. 

This role is offered on 8 days on and 6 days off roster and would be Fly in Fly out from Perth.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of Gold Fields and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are always adhered to.
  • Assist the Senior Engineer: Mine Planning with the preparation of Life of Mine (LOM) plans and forecasts
  • Prepare Preliminary Mine Designs with direction from the LOM plus Conceptual Mine Designs as geological grade control drilling is completed
  • Assist in briefing production personnel on new stopes being developed & liaise with supervisors with regard to the understanding of designs & plans
  • Maintain the forward rolling 6 months plan in the final design stage and 6 to 12 months in the preliminary design stage in Vulcan and Deswik
  •  Prepare rolling 4-week underground infrastructure schedule
  • Ensure Geologists are aware of stope design deadlines as detailed in the 3-month rolling schedule, so that stope model are presented on time to satisfy planning/production requirements
  • Prepare stope designs and layouts as required to meet the budget schedule
  • Ensure mine plans are designed, approved, and distributed as per the Deswik schedule to meet the monthly plan and for 12-month forecasting purposes

Key factors to your success include;

  • Tertiary Qualifications in a Mining Engineering or a related discipline
  • WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency or ability to obtain
  • More than 5 years of underground engineering experience, with exposure to all production phases preferably gold
  • Exposure to Microsoft office and mining software such as Deswik and Ventsim
  • Current WA Dangerous Goods Card & valid “C” Driver’s License
