About the Position
The WHS Communications and Engagement Officer engages workers of the City at all levels in wellness, health, safety and security through the delivery of effective communications and scheduled events that support the Corporate Wellness, Health, and Safety strategic plans.

Responsibilities and duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Take responsibility for the development and implementation of plans including the delivery of objectives, budgets and timelines.
  • Develop and implement communication plans to meet organisational and project-related requirements in wellness, health, safety and security.
  • Interpreting complex technical WHS matters (e.g. incident investigation reports) in order to simply communicate the key points
  • Organise, manage and deliver events, exhibitions, forums and launches such as the WHS expo and awards.
  • Create and innovate communication solutions and strategies.
  • Maintain a schedule of communication and engagement activities to effectively manage the release of information, events and promotions throughout the year.
  • Provide advice to branch staff and leaders throughout the organisation on communication issues to improve Council’s WHS Culture.
  • Plan, develop and maintain a suite of communication tools to support leaders in providing consistent corporate wellness, health, safety and security messages throughout the organisation.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day outputs of the branch by supporting tasks such as content creation and editing information in accordance with the City’s Communication Guide.
  • Ensure briefing notes, key messages and other communication tools are developed and delivered in a professional and timely manner.
  • Coordinate launches / opportunities and campaigns for new Council wellness, health, safety and security messages services and initiatives.
  • Write, edit and arrange production of a variety of communication tools including, but not limited to alerts, notices, toolbox talks, newsletters, pamphlets, video and online content. Ensure all content facilitated is Communication Guide and Brand Guide compliant.
  • Assist with managing WHS brand identity and messages.
  • Provide reports on progress and achievements following monthly communications and the delivery of events.
  • Provide ad hoc communications support as directed by the Team Leader CSR Governance.

About You

  • Strong experience in a corporate internal communication function in a large diverse organisation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of WHS and experience in WHS communications
  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proactively consult with a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in event management
  • Strong research skills, with the ability to compile material from a wide range of sources
  • Creative with problem-solving and ability to think outside the box
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Good time management and is able to multi-task
  • Willingness to undertake further training to improve skills in the areas required by this position
