About the Role
In this role you will be working in the Planning Development team to maintain and promote quality control of road, drainage and concrete construction carried out in private subdivisions by contractors, in accordance with Council approved plans and specifications.

You will also maintain and promote quality control of works carried out by contractors relating to private developments with planning permits to protect and preserve Council’s road assets.

This is a temporary full-time position for five months.

Key responsibilities include:


  • Inspecting work of contractors in private subdivisions to ensure compliance with Council standards, specifications and the approved construction plans.
  • Monitoring construction techniques and construction site to ensure they are safe and in accordance with Council standards and relevant State and Federal Government legislation and standards.

Planning Permits

  • Conducting inspections of Engineering related conditions of Planning Permits.
  • Inspecting contractors to ensure they adhere to engineering related conditions of Planning Permits.

Legal Point of Discharge

  • Providing legal point of discharge information as per Property Information Request Form.
  • As required, conduct follow-up inspections.


  • Completing vehicle crossing, road opening and asset protection permit inspections from time to time.
  • Providing advice and information to achieve optimum outcomes with key stakeholders.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in road construction, drainage and concrete works.
  • Good communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
  • Some experience in road openings, vehicle crossing and asset protection permit inspections
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritise own workload.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work as part of a team.
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety issues in regard to construction works.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with difficult contractors and customers.


  • Qualifications in civil construction
  • Mine Manager’s Certificate (Trenches)
  • Confined spaces experience.
