Geotechnical Engineer- WORIHW PTY LTD

Salary Range: $77,500 - $87,500 PA. Plus Bonus Potential

An increase in consulting and contract work to underground mines has created a position for a Full Time Geotechnical Engineer to join our team.

Qualifications and Skills

The preferred candidate will hold an undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology. A relevant Master’s degree will be highly regarded.

The applicant must have a minimum of 4 years working in hard rock underground mines and have a passion for working on mine sites. 

Key selection criteria:

  • Competent Underground geotechnical mapping and rock mass characterisation
  • Competent Underground ground support methodologies and assessment.
  • Familiarity with Microseismic monitoring techniques and applications.
  • Strong Technical knowledge of underground mining
  • Competent user of common Numerical Modelling software packages.
  • High Level Written and verbal communication skills
  • Competent with mine planning software packages. (Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac)

The successful applicant will undertake both mine site based operational support and office based project work. Site work is expected to be based on Eastern Goldfields Mine sites in Western Australia, but may involve remote and interstate projects.

Key activities

  • Rock mass characterisation, mapping of rock mass and ground support performance.
  • Operational mine site Geotechnical Support
  • Development of QA/ QC systems
  • Evaluation of mining methods and extraction sequences appropriate to the controlling rock mass conditions.
  • Determination of rehabilitation requirements for safe re entry to old, damaged or remnant mining areas.
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant site safety systems and procedures.
  • Observation of all relevant state and national regulatory legislation.

Personal Requirements

  • Residential or willing to relocate to the Eastern Goldfields WA point of hire.
  • Flexible roster arrangements depending on assignment
  • Willing to undergo and pass Drug and Alcohol clearance, Western Australian Police Clearance and Mine Site Health Assessments sufficient to permit access to Western Australian Gold and Mineral mining operations.
