The Mechanical Engineer plans, develops, installs, maintains and repairs mechanically functioning plant and equipment for a particular specialism such as robotics, automotive engines, using tools, machines, equipment and engineering techniques.

Scope of work:

  • Research, design and manufacture
  1. Design and implement cost-effective equipment or modifications to help improve productivity, safety and reliability
  2. Study industrial processes to determine where and how application of equipment can be made
  3. Take brief regarding requirements and produce specifications/design for equipment/machinery or improved production process
  4. Read and interpret design specifications, reports and technical drawings
  5. Research and analyse design proposals and specifications to evaluate the feasibility, cost and maintenance requirements of designs or applications
  6. Provide suitable solutions and estimate costs and time
  7. Oversee or make product prototypes/models using drafting tools or computer assisted design/drafting equipment or software
  8. Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects
  9. Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide advice
  10. Work to relevant engineering design and performance specifications and standards
  11. Liaise with others in design team and with clients and contractors
  12. Attend meetings on-site to ensure compliance to specifications
  13. Develop, test and evaluate designs ensuring recording and analysis of data, retesting and adherence to specifications
  14. Prepare product documentation, write reports and give presentations
  15. Monitor plant and equipment to improve future design, and test and recommend new processing methods
  16. Monitor and commission plant and systems
  17. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications

Project Management

  1. Plan, manage and evaluate projects ensuring cost, time, safety and compliance standards are met
  2. Supervise production workers, tradespeople, technicians and other engineers in projects
  3. Work with others cooperatively or in multidisciplinary teams to achieve project outcomes


  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering


  • 1-2years experience as an engineering professional
  • Experience planning and implementing engineering projects
  • Project management experience
  • Experience using relevant engineering systems/processes/technologies
  • A proven track record delivering high-quality engineering services

Salary $60,000 to $65,000 plus superannuation.
