Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) is a modern fire and rescue service that meets the needs of twenty-first century Victoria. Established on 1 July 2020 as part of Victoria's Fire Services Reforms [https://www.vic.gov.au/fire-services-reform], FRV serves and protects communities across Melbourne and Victoria's major regional centres from 85 FRV fire and rescue stations across the state. Its career firefighters operate 47 fire stations in metropolitan Melbourne and 38 regional stations, most of which are co-located with CFA volunteer brigades. FRV proudly continues to work alongside the Country Fire Authority (CFA), which is a community-based volunteer fire service.

Your new role
The primary purpose of the position of the Solution Architect is to analyse the existing business application landscape, and define and execute a roadmap for the implementation of a modern, reliable, scalable and integrated business application environment. Including defining the architecture, modules, interfaces, and data for a system to satisfy strategic and operational goals and objectives; and ensuring business applications and their integrations align with organisational needs.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Understand the organisations solution architecture requirements and constraints. Adhere to application architecture standards and principles and ownership of the architecture throughout solution design, build and delivery. Evaluate architecture, design software, and evaluate and choose technology, according to
  • organisational needs.
  • Review the existing business application landscape. Design, propose and execute an agreed application migration to FRV target landscape, removing duplication and obsolescence, and define those that can and will need to be redeveloped to support FRV plans.
  • Collaborate with management, stakeholders and key ICT resources in order to determine needs for new software, platforms and applications. Utilise the required tools, technology and various methodologies to create fit for purpose and fit for use software solutions, paying attention to system feasibility, security, integration, sustainability and usability.

What you'll need to succeed
  • Proven experience as a solutions architect and at least 3 years’ experience in application/software architecture. Knowledge of Microsoft .NET, JAVA, integration,
  • database and SAP HANA platforms. A comprehensive understanding of software and application architecture and design, and high quality organisational and
  • leadership skills. Experience with relevant development tools and specific application and system architecture, in addition to a strong understanding of object-oriented design.
