About the Role

Infracorr are currently looking for an experienced Materials Engineer to join our cohesive engineering team in our Melbourne (Notting Hill) office in a permanent capacity. 

In your role you will be involved in the design and implementation of cathodic protection systems on major civil infrastructure. This will include contractor management, construction supervision and quality review, as well as system design, commissioning and monitoring.

In addition, you will undertake condition assessments of a wide range of infrastructure including wharves, jetties, bridges and buildings. You will be responsible for undertaking and co-ordinating site investigations, reporting, identifying and designing of remedial options, preparing detailed scope of works and cost estimates, obtaining and reviewing tenders, and managing various projects.

Your assignment scope will be varied based on your development and experience and will provide you with an opportunity to work across a wide range of business sectors including; government, marine, mining, commercial, residential, industrial, education and hospitals.

Interstate and short-term travel may be required to various locations across Australia as well as our head office in Melbourne for project requirements and training opportunities.

Duties include:

  • Conducting condition assessment of deteriorated infrastructure, and/or failure analysis of components, and/or conducting laboratory testing, to identify failure mechanisms, and developing recommended solutions
  • Determining the cause of deterioration/defects, and identifying suitable remedial actions
  • Preparing designs and specifications for remedial and new construction activities, ensuring that materials conform with design specifications/requirements
  • Preparing designs for cathodic protection systems and designing/planning remote control/monitoring systems
  • Liaising with materials suppliers to evaluate and select appropriate materials for specific applications
  • Reviewing civil infrastructure plans and recommending materials to achieve required design specifications including durability, mechanical properties (strength, etc.) and cost
  • Monitoring the operation and maintenance of cathodic protection equipment to ensure they are operating correctly/efficiently

Skills, Experiences, Licenses and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Materials engineering
  • 2 - 4 years’ experience with:
  • NACE CP2 training course
  • Australian Drivers Licence
  • Current holder of (or eligible to hold) Marine Security Identification Card (MSIC)
  • On site condition assessment of civil infrastructure, including field testing;
  • Operation of ground penetration radar;
  • Design and monitoring of hybrid cathodic protection systems;

Desired:

  • Experience in durability design for civil infrastructure materials
  • Project management skills in consulting or construction

Salary range of $70,000- $80,000 depending on experience.
