About Your Role

As part of the global Thales Group, Australian Munitions is the only large-scale manufacturer of explosive ordnance in Australia. Our Benalla site produces ammunition, explosive ordnance and other munitions, while the Mulwala site focuses on high quality gun and rocket propellants, high explosives and other complex systems. We have a decades-long pedigree in explosives ordnance manufacture in Australia, while the broader Thales group has munitions manufacturing facilities throughout Europe.

The Australian Munitions business operates and manages the Australian facilities on behalf of the Commonwealth Government and supplies Munitions to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) via a long-term supply contract. As the ADFs’ Munitions requirements are evolving so are we - transforming the breadth and depth of the Munitions supplied to the ADF - manufactured in Australia.

We are now seeking an experienced and highly motivated engineer to help lead our specialised engineering function.

With an emphasis on leading over technical, this opportunity is primarily built around human capital management and building capability and therefore we are open to various industry and technical backgrounds.

Some of your responsibilities in this role will be;

Co-ordinating engineering tasks and resources allocation to meet current requirements whilst ensure skills align to future capability demands

Providing mentorship, leadership and develop the skills and competencies of engineers and scientists

Provide task advice to the General Manager, production managers and engineering managers, related to issues such as product quality and production efficiency

Support the development & introduction of new products into production.

How About You?

To be successful in this role you can come from a variety backgrounds, it is however envisaged you will;

Have a Degree in Engineering (i.e. Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing or Mechatronics) and be eligible for Engineering Registration via IEAust

Have extensive experience in managing people and operations in a manufacturing and/or engineering design environment

Have demonstrable experience of building the capability of an engineering function

Having prior knowledge of and experience with energetics, munitions and weapon systems is desired but not mandatory
