Reporting to the Director, the WHS Manager is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the WHS management system for the NSEG Group, covering health & safety onsite and in the state-based offices across all businesses in the group. Although this role is not responsible for ISO14001 and IS9001, they will need to work closely with key stakeholders around the three systems. This role is key to ensuring that WHS compliance, systems, and culture are implemented and maintained in a fast-paced environment. This includes gaining and maintaining a certified system for the health & safety elements. The health & safety system is currently certified to AS 4801:2001 and will be transitioning to the new ISO 45001. There are several businesses in NSEG, and they will all need to be aligned into an overarching WHSMS complying with ISO45001. The group is aiming for 90% compliance within 12 months and 99% within 2 years


Responsibilities

The key duties of your Role include, but are not limited to: Work, Health & Safety Manager: 

Responsibilities Includes

  • Lead the establishment and implementation of a group-wide WHS Management System compliant with ISO45001. 
  • Take over the current roadmap from external consultants to 100% WHS compliance across the group. 
  • Work with Senior Management to ensure they are kept abreast of the risks and progression of WHS across the group. 
  • Ensures that appropriate, compliant, and easy-to-use procedures & templates are available for all staff to use for their day-to-day work. 
  • Work with the Development team to digitize all onsite WHS templates and forms, allowing subcontractors to comply with WHS requirements.
  • Develop and implement compliant SWMS, to be used and returned from the field for all relevant construction-related businesses. 
  • Create a safety-first culture. 
  • Lead change management process to create a safety-first culture 
  • Assist Project and Installation Managers to develop site/ project-specific SWMS, Construction Safety Plan
  • Put together training materials to onboard installer sub-contractors, evaluate sub-contractor credentials and approve sub-contractors that meet our requirements. 
  • Develop WHS training needs matrix and obtain training records and evidence of competency. 
  • Stay abreast of changing national regulations and standards 
  • Perform WHS Management System inductions for all workers. 
  • Perform annual WHS legal compliance review. 
  • Develop consultation, cooperation and coordination procedures. 
  • Monitor Hazard, Incident and Non-conformance reports, carry out Investigations and propose
  • Corrective Actions and Improvements. 
  • Perform annual Management Review.
  • Responsible for Document and Record Control. 
  • Responsible for auditing and reporting on-site safety performance.
  • Coach, train, and mentor staff and contractors in WHS

Role Requirements: 

  • 3 years + in a WHS Manager or similar role
  • 3 years + in a similar role in the construction industry
  • Formal qualifications in WHS (ISO45001 will be highly regarded) 
  • Extensive experience in Construction and/or heavy industry and high-risk workplaces. 
  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills 
  • Highly organized and motivated with a can-do attitude 
  • Ability to establish the framework, objectives and targets of the WHS management system.
  • Ability to determine the training and competency requirements as well as train sub-contractors/ workers.
  • Experience in implement changes to the safety documentation and templates to comply with legislative changes, respond to incidents & near misses, and continual improvement.
