The Opportunity

J Barrett Constructions Pty Ltd is a growing business in the building maintenance/renovations industry.

As a result of our continued operations, we seek the support of an experienced Wall and Floor Tiler to join our team and work around the Perth area.

This position is full-time, working 38 hours a week (guaranteed), plus reasonable additional hours.

Salary: $55,000 to $65,000 per annum (plus super)

Job Description

As a Wall and Floor Tiler, you will be expected to lay ceramic, clay, slate, marble, glass and other types of tiles on external and internal walls and floors to provide protective and decorative finishes.

As a part of the job, you will be expected to perform the following tasks:

• Work-out the quantity of materials needed for the job by taking surface measurements or looking at job specifications and/or drawings;

• Look at plans, measure and mark surfaces to be covered and lay-out work;

• Prepare wall and floor surfaces by removing old tiles, grout, cement and adhesives;

• Fill holes and cracks, and then clean surfaces;

• Attach tiles to surfaces, using correct adhesives, making sure that patterned tiles match;

• Use tile-cutting tools to cut and shape tiles needed for edges, corners or around obstacles such as fittings and pipes;

• Space and even tiles by using tools such as spirit levels, squares and plumb-lines;

• Prepare and apply grout, remove excess grout, clean and polish tiles;

• Lay floors of cement, granolithic, terrazzo or similar composition; and

• Apply waterproofing systems.


In the course of your work, you might be required to:

• Work in confined areas where bending and kneeling are required;

• Lift and carry cement bags, heavy materials and stacks of tiles;

• Work at heights, using ladders and scaffoldings; and

• Work in small teams and move frequently from one job location to another.

Hiring Criteria

In order to be successful, you must:

  • Possess a Certificate III-level qualification plus 2 years’ work experience; OR a Certificate IV in case of no experience; OR 3 years’ work experience, in case of no formal qualification;
  • Possess high standard and exceptional customer service;
  • Possess sound communication skills;
  • Possess good attention to detail;
  • Possess a valid WA Drivers Licence;
  • Be honest, motivated, reliable and responsible;
  • Be willing and able to commit to ongoing employment in the long-term; and
  • Be able to work autonomously as well as in teams.

In addition, the following certifications are desirable, but not essential:

  • Work at Heights;
  • Traffic Management; and
  • White Card.

Important: Candidates must also have full-time work rights in Australia to be considered.
