Data Centre HVAC Mechanical Engineer (Operations Engineering)

We are looking for a HVAC mechanical engineering person to join the Operations Engineering team at Equinix. In this role you will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide HVAC engineering support and guidance to all Equinix facilities across Australia in accordance with Equinix global engineering guidelines. This is a chance to move off the tools and use your trouble shooting ability, operation and maintenance skills in a large global leader in the technology industry.

Role Overview

You will join the team of Operations Engineering in Australia. The Operations Engineering’s Engineers are responsible for supervising, guiding, supporting and training to local site facilities engineers, in their dealing with alarm response, fault finding, maintenance, repairs, and modification of equipment relating to controls, electrical, mechanical systems and equipment.


Key Responsibilities

  • SME for all HVAC equipment (Aircooled/water cooled Chillers, pumps, Indirect Evaporative Coolers, Chilled Water System, Condenser Water System, Direct Expansion System, CRAHs)
  • Provide professional advice/guidance on HVAC design, troubleshooting, sequence of operation
  • Review and approve engineering MOPs for HVAC maintenance, expansion and testing works
  • Ensure HVAC equipment have the up-to-date firmware and settings
  • Assist local facility engineer in solving day to day HVAC operation challenges
  • Reduce/eliminate operation risk for all HVAC system
  • Participate in SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) for new HVAC commissioning
  • Interaction with internal and external vendors in HVAC items


Qualifications & Experience

  • Excellent written and spoken interpersonal communication skills, proficient in English language
  • Great attitude, positive outlook, enjoys working in a team environment
  • May have managed a small team or worked with multiple vendors
  • Excels at problem solving and thinking on their feet
  • 5 + years experience post trade or degree
  • Mechanical (HVAC) system onsite field experience in trouble-shooting, operations and maintenance
  • Trade background or degree in Engineering
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills/ Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
