We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer to join our closure support department at Energy Resources of Australia’s Ranger Mine in the Northern Territory. This exciting role will be instrumental in providing technical guidance to the closure support team for its various water treatment assets on site. The successful candidate will be involved in technically challenging projects whilst working within a cohesive team of dedicated professionals that demonstrate a strong safety culture.

This role is a truly unique opportunity for an experienced chemical engineer to be part of a challenging and unique closure project. Being situated in heart of the world heritage Kakadu National Park, this flagship project will set the example of world class rehabilitation and closure for other mine sites in Australia and around the world.

Closure and rehab of Ranger Uranium mine is planned to conclude in 2026 and its water treatment assets are instrumental in the treatment of monsoonal rainfall and process water inventory at site.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Chemical Engineering with extensive industrial water treatment experience
  • An excellent understanding of water treatment operations and chemistry / thermodynamics involved in UF, RO, lime softening and thermal desalination units
  • A passion for innovation and driving improvements and efficiencies with experience in the implementation of technical improvement concepts
  • Prior experience managing water treatment improvement projects
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to communicate and present technical content across a broad range of stakeholders
  • An understanding of steam and power generation systems and experience dealing with issues related to high calcium scaling water chemistry will be well regarded

Where you’ll be working 

Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto its major shareholder. ERA has mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory since 1980. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, and is surrounded by, but separate from Kakadu National Park. Mining at Ranger ceased in November 2012 and since then, Ranger has been processing ore from stockpiles.

The role will be working on a 5/2; 4/3 bus in bus out arrangement between Ranger Mine and Darwin.
