The Role
Based in Canberra, but open to other applicants who are set up to work remotely. We have an excellent opportunity for an energetic, growth minded, collaborative, self-starter to join the Programmed Electrical Technologies (PET) team as an Electrical & Communications Estimator. Reporting to the Sales and Estimating Manager, we are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to estimate and tender medium to large scale projects in ACT region across Defence, Government, Education, Commercial and Financial sectors.
You will be responsible for ensuring the timely completion of estimates with compliance to the specifications and documentation supplied through to the final tender submission. The role will consist of the following responsibilities.
- Attend site inspections and client meetings
- Generate scope of works statement to clearly define what works are included / excluded from estimation
- Uses estimating software to generate estimates in a timely and accurate manner
- Manage queries and clarification communications
- Identify value engineering opportunities
- Completion of all required estimate detail, summary and review documentation
- Identifies HSE requirements, labour, materials, hire and subcontractor costs
- Preparation of sales to delivery handover documentation
- Keep up-to-date with legislation, codes of practice, guidelines and ethical standards
- Liaise with suppliers/vendors to maximise opportunities through quality relationships
- Ensure quality, consistency and compliance with all assigned work
- Be part of a high achieving team
- Ensures a disciplined approach is taken in regards to pricing and margin control
- Experience in Electrical and Communications construction
- Electrical trade Qualification
- Extensive Communications (Copper & Fibre) experience (3 years minimum)
- Estimating experience (ConEst estimating software experience an advantage but not essential)
- Strong skills in the Microsoft suite of software
- Excellent negotiation & presentation skills
- Strong communicator, developing effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Exposure to Contract/Project Management, planning and scheduling will be considered an advantage
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge of operational and business fundamentals in the workplace
- Communicate fluently and in an engaging manner, whether producing written documents or verbally addressing individuals or groups. Able to explain information clearly and logically, and convey arguments in a compelling and persuasive manner
- Plan activities well in advance; organise and schedules events, activities and resources; prioritises and manages time to achieve results
