Junior Mechanical Engineer - Yet Another Internal Promotion

Any Industry
Source: uWorkin

The Opportunity:

I’ve been lucky to recruit for this business over the last 6 years because they typically hire when someone is promoted or a new position is created. Their retention rate is excellent because they invest in their people and actively work to help them grow and learn.

In this case I’m reaching out to the market to hire their third Junior Mech Eng in the last 6 years…both previous incumbents of the role have been promoted within the business.

This company has an MD who believes in people constantly learning and adding new ideas and fresh perspectives. Technically, their industry is moving more towards a mechatronics focus and if you have that training, you will contribute to a more diverse range of projects.

The Day to Day:

The role has two components, 80% engineering and 20% technical support. To give you a flavour of the role, typical tasks cover;

  • Creating engineering drawings, parts list and technical information for a broad product range.
  • Investigate change requests.
  • Monitor manufacturing and testing of prototypes.
  • Partner with production team for best-in-practice design for manufacture.
  • Site visits for technical reports.
  • Analyse potential cost and design improvements for existing product range.
  • CNC and laser programming to production.
  • Provision of technical support to customers and technicians.
  • Supporting sales enquiries regarding product design.
  • Assisting the team with introduction of new product ranges.

It’s a broad role and ultimately what you make of it. If you can handle more, you’ll be given more. They won’t let you become bored easily.

Minimum Candidate Requirement:

  • Mechanical or Mechatronics Degree.
  • 12 months in a junior/graduate engineering role, showing some intuition and desire to learn more.
  • Communication – clear and confident persona and phone manner.
  • Willing to get involved in new projects and curious about new products and designs.
