  • Permanent Adelaide based opportunity

Naval Group Australia has one singular focus - to design and build 12 state-of-the-art submarines for our country. To support this, the Adelaide Land-Based Test Facility (ALBTF) will provide specialist expertise and testing services for equipment qualification and acceptance.

A unique and exciting opportunity exists for a Mechanical Engineer to join the growing team to develop and deliver mechanical workshops and test benches within the ALBTF to perform compressed air, environmental, fluid chemistry, hydraulic, hyperbaric and mechanical tests.

More specifically, the Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Establish a deep understanding of the concept of operations and requirements for the allocated test articles and test benches
  • Follow engineering plans to perform preliminary and detailed design, integration verification, validation and acceptance activities.
  • Provide technical support to the procurement of ALBTF mechanical equipment and supplies to ensure requirements are correctly flowed to suppliers and that delivered supplies are compliant.
  • Track key aspects of the evolving preliminary and detailed design solutions and uses this information to adjust the design, if appropriate.

The job will initially involve a short-term relocation to Cherbourg, France for approximately 7 months on-the-job training and familiarisation.

To be successful, the position suits a candidate that has:

  • Demonstrated experience as a mechanical or structural engineer- designing, integrating or testing mechanical systems or assets.
  • Tertiary degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
  • Demonstrated high levels of commitment, personal drive and application in achieving organisational outcomes and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Experience in marine structures, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems and hyperbaric chambers would be advantageous.

As part of our team, you will be challenged. You will get to work on a project from its infancy and contribute from the start. You will grow as the program evolves over the next 50 years, and you will work alongside some of the brightest minds from around the world.
