An opportunity now exists for and Engineering Supervisor to join our Integrated Engineering Services (IES) division in Edinburgh, SA

Working alongside world-leading defence scientists our Integrated Engineering Services division offers multi-disciplinary professional engineering services supported by in-house manufacturing capabilities, to solve challenging engineering problems for our Defence Science and Technology clients.

The Engineering Supervisor will support the Electrical/ Electronic Team lead and supervise the Design Team who are responsible for the electronic aspects of the design, development, testing, and documentation at QinetiQ IES team located in Edinburgh.

  • Support the relevant Team Lead by supervising members of the Design Team.
  • Support the Team Lead in overall Design Team capability management, including professional development of staff, training requirements and development of staff towards awarding of Engineering Authorities.
  • Deliver technical projects within the limits of own delegation.
  • Design of electronic systems as per the requirements and safety regulations
  • Development of the system requirements and specifications
  • Development of documentation for design validation and qualification
  • Project technical management of multiple design projects
  • Working in conjunction with other technical disciplines to ensure overall system requirements are achieved
  • Working in conjunction with other departments to meet operational requirements
  • Creating and/or assisting with cost estimates for new products and services
  • Review and/or approval of basic drawings, electronics schematics and other technical documents
  • Additional tasks as assigned by superior


To be successful in the role Engineering Supervisor the ideal applicant will require:
  • Relevant bachelor degree in (e.g., Embedded Systems, Computer Systems, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics)
  • 10+ years experience in electronics, software and ideally firmware product development, sub-systems, and system integration, from concept development to customer delivery.
  • Skilled in microcontroller technology, communication protocols, best design practices and relevant standards (EMC) for embedded hardware and software, including schematic capture, pcb design.
  • Application development for PC, Android and iOS would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering processes such as, requirements development, definition of interface control documents, test cases, test execution and documentation.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++ and experience in RTOS operating systems.
  • Computer proficiency (Document Management Software, MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)


Additional Desirable Assets Would Include
  • Experience with CAD software packages
  • Altium, Electra experience or simular software packages
  • Technical writing
  • Conduct minor electronic fabrication ( fault finding to component level)
