Due to significant progress, we are now seeking a System of Systems Architecture Engineer to provide technical leadership for systems and system of systems architectures through establishment and operationalisation of System of Systems Architecture capabilities for Northrop Grumman Australia (NGA). The role is expected to be able to support across multiple projects, seeking alignment where common architectures provide business advantage and helping to standardise the architectural efforts by each project so far as makes reasonable sense for each capture.

The role is to draw the best experience and practices of requirements architecture, system architecture and design patterns, system integration, MBSE, system configuration management and security engineering from NG and the broader industry and contextualize them within an Australian Defence environment for NGA. This includes, but is not limited to application for existing Defence capabilities and architectures, as well as architecture design for new and emerging projects and technologies, knowledge of architecture design patterns, notations and specific areas of practice such as fault tolerant and proven reliability architectures.

This role can be based in either Adelaide, Brisbane or Canberra.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop, establish, operationalise and manage a System of Systems Architectures capability.
  • Support architecture development and detailed design of solutions across captures and programs to meet ADF operational needs, drawing upon Modular Open Systems Architectures methodologies.
  • Provide MBSE leadership.
  • Promote and support implementation of agile systems engineering practices.
  • Establish and lead the NGA Architectures Working Group to encourage common architecture practices and continuous improvement across the NGA business.
  • Perform each of the 7 core elements of SoSE (from DoD’s SE Guide for SoS).
  • Lead trade studies between two systems/sub-systems to choose a solution that maximizes the objectives met.
  • Any other duties as reasonably required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree qualified Engineer capable of being a Chartered Professional Engineer.
  • Familiarity with principles of MBSE, Agile, DevOps, and Open Systems Architectures.
  • Training or Qualification in Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with system engineering practices for SoS engineering.
  • Familiarity with principles of DODAF, AUSDAF, UAF, SysML or equivalent architecture paradigms or methodologies.
  • Experience with MBSE software tools (such as DOORS, Cameo, etc.).
  • Experience with conducting trade studies to select solutions that maximize achievement of objectives and requirements.
  • Must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance (NV1).
