The Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW) is looking for an experienced senior executive to take on the role of Executive Director Geological Survey (MEG).

  • Improve the knowledge, application and effective communication of data on NSW’s mineral resources to support economic development
  • Full-time ongoing role based in Dubbo, NSW.
  • TRP from $280,000 pa for this role and will be commensurate with experience.

About Mining Exploration and Geoscience

The Department of Regional NSW was formed in 2020 as a central agency for regional issues. The Department is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.

The Division of Mining, Exploration and Geoscience sets strategic policy for the state’s mineral and energy resources, gathers, analyses, and disseminates geoscientific information, assesses and determines applications for mineral and petroleum titles for exploration activities and extractive uses and supports industry development.

About the role

As the Executive Director Geological Survey you will lead the NSW Government’s work to identify geoscientific information to increase exploration and mining investment in regional NSW. You will be tasked with providing high quality and relevant data and information to support the industry and to increase the profile of NSW resource potential.

You will lead and direct timely, expert, and authoritative advice to the Deputy Secretary and Secretary, enabling fully informed evidence-based strategic recommendations and decisions.

As the Executive Director you will be responsible for driving a continuous improvement culture within the team, ensuring that the priorities, service and responsiveness of the team is meeting the needs of all stakeholders.

You must possess a degree qualification in a Geology, Earth Sciences, Engineering or other relevant discipline and have experience working in exploration.

About you

You will be a high performing senior executive with considerable experience in the resources industry. You will have a thorough understanding of industry needs, the role of government, the importance of geoscience data, a high-level understanding of the legislative framework, and data acquisition management frameworks. Ideally you will have experience in the metals, minerals and gas sectors.

Additionally, you will have an extensive background in successfully managing multiple programs in a large corporate or public sector environment, including financial oversight of complex and large, multi-million dollar, programs.

You will be a strong leader with a successful track record of continuous improvement, service delivery and cultural transformation.
