The Manager of Construction is responsible for managing construction activities and team, promoting adherence to company polices and management systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and manage a system to ensure the company's Occupational Health & Safety obligations are strictly adhered to on all construction projects.
  • Manage the company's environmental policy / system to enable the company to satisfy the growing need for environmental compliance on government projects.
  • Management of the certified quality assurance systems that will enable the company to tender works as the Principal Contractor where third party accredited QA systems are required.
  • Manage a maintenance program for the company's plant and equipment.
  • Developing client relationships, managing client expectations, and ensuring construction activities are aligned with customer requirements.
  • Overseeing and monitoring progress against time, cost, and quality requirements of construction projects. Critically reviewing budgets and job plans and making adjustments as required. This will include the creation and management of a works program that will be updated on a weekly basis and will allow the company to better manage its current resources and determine ahead of time any additional resources that may be required to complete the works that are in the the company order bank.
  • Take ultimate responsibility for the performance of their immediate reports, ensuring that all NSW Site Managers and Supervisors have the required skills and resources (both human resources and equipment) to complete their required tasks.
  • Manage site and warehouse inventory levels in line with project requirements and stock minimisation goals.
  • Maintaining regular liaison and communication with NSW State Manager and Project to ensure coordination of construction activities.
  • Monitoring legal, contractual, and financial aspects of construction projects in conjunction with NSW State Manager.
  • Monitoring design and construction risks; developing and implementing actions to mitigate risks and manage issues that pertain to time, cost, and quality.
  • In consultation with the Management team ensure optimal resource allocation and utilisation is achieved against the objectives of specific construction project requirements and the company's commitment to fostering the development of its people.
  • Sourcing and identifying potential construction opportunities that align with the company's chosen market(s).
  • Identify suitable opportunities and recommend these opportunities while considering profitability and risk factors.
  • Provide expert input into construction tenders and negotiations.
  • In consultation with the Managing Directors, monitor and manage industrial relations issues pertaining to the company's construction projects.
  • Regularly reviewing business practices relating to the company's construction projects to ensure maximum cost, quality, and safety benefits are achieved.

  • Recruit and select Contractors in connection with project estimates.
  • Recruit and select Employees in collaboration with the NSW State Manager.

  • Authorise and / or complete daily site diaries.
  • Reviews construction and installation records to ensure compliance with design intent and quality requirements.
  • To ensure that OH&S obligations are met and exceeded.
  • Comply with and implement systems in accordance with IMS values of continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for projects meeting and ideally exceeding budgetary targets.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal manner
  • Detailed understanding of piling, construction and engineering practices
  • Strong skills in reading plans and specifications
  • Possess strong team leadership skills
  • Project Scheduling
  • Understanding of Contract Conditions and adherence
  • Budgeting
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The position holder must have:


  • Construction Industry General Safety Induction Card
  • Open Motor Vehicle Licence
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Extensive industry experience is mandatory
